Robert Preston, 83

Robert U. “Bob” Preston, 83, of rural Alger, died at 4:21 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health Systems, due to complications following open- heart surgery.
He was born Jan. 20, 1930, in the home he lives in today, the son of Merle E. (Crowe) and William M. Preston, who preceded him in death. On July 15, 1951, he married Mary K. Clark, and she survives.

Donald Lindeman, 77

Donald J. “Don” Lindeman, 77, of Delphos, died at 2:35 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.
Don was born Dec. 4, 1935, in Lima, to Bertha (Pohlman) and Joseph E. Lindeman. On June 8, 1955, he married Lorene Hoehn, and she survives in Delphos.

Garry Cummins, 67

April 4, 2013

Garry Cummins, 67, of Harrod, died at 12:24 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, in a truck accident.
He was born Oct. 25, 1945, in Bellefontaine, to the late Ida Ruth (Davis) Carl David Cummins. On Oct. 11, 1985, he married Kathryn Kay Harshbarger, who survives.

Jim Herbst, 46

Jim A. Herbst, 46, of Portland, Tenn., formerly of Wapakoneta, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 23, 1967, in Lima, the son of Joan (Wilson) and Jimmy Herbst. Joan and Jim Maitlen survive in Ohio and Jimmy and Nancy Herbst survive in Tennessee.

New Knoxville student garners Walter Award

An area student — who has a passion for English and writing — was selected as the county representative for an annual award, and she nominated an inspirational teacher who introduced her to this passion.

Lydia Felty, a senior at New Knoxville High School, was chosen from among six county students to represent Auglaize County for state recognition for the Franklin B. Walter All Scholastic Achievement Award.

Building contracts awarded

BOTKINS — Botkins Local Schools Board of Education members selected Charles Construction Services Inc. as its construction manager during Tuesday’s special board meeting.

Charles Construction Services, of Findlay, submitted the lowest bid to complete construction of the new school building approved by voters in November. Groundbreaking for the new school is April 14.
