Carolyn D. Phillips, 60, of Celina, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 17, 1952, in Lima, the daughter of Helen (Benzing) and T.J. Roop, who survive in Wapakoneta. On Oct. 28, 1972, she married Russell Phillips, who survives in Celina.
Shirley A. Lageman, 77, 10357 Kettlersville Road, New Knoxville, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 3, 1935, in Auglaize County, the daughter of Carrie (Christler) and John Elsass. On Feb. 14, 1959, she married James Lageman, and he survives at the residence.
Reuben J. Walton, 89, of Waynesfield, died at 12:39 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Heartland of Indian Lake.
He was born June 16, 1923, in Wyandot County, the son of Mildred V. (Roby) and Emery E. Walton who preceded him death. On Jan 26, 1946, he married Mildred L. Walter who survives in Waynesfield.
Daniel J. “Stink†Steinke, 57, of Fryburg, died at 12:29 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Kindred Hospital in Lima.
He was born July 7, 1955, in Lima, the son of Pauline “Polly†(Schaub) and Albin P. Steinke. His mother is deceased and his father survives in Fryburg.
Also surviving are two brothers, Steven (Deanna) Steinke, of Wapakoneta, and Scott Steinke, of Wapakoneta; three sisters, Susan (Randy) Baber, of Wapakoneta, Lisa (Jim) Kreitzer, of Wapakoneta, and Jill (Chris) Keith, of Wapakoneta; 15 nieces and nephews; and 14 great-nieces and nephews.
A Wapakoneta man was among six Auglaize County residents as well as one Celina man arrested for trafficking in drugs, Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office officials announced this morning.
Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon said the arrests were the result of a recent investigation by the Auglaize-Mercer County Grand Lake Drug Task Force, in conjunction with the St. Marys, Wapakoneta and Minster police departments.
Charles Leo Mitchell, 91, of Wapakoneta, died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.
He was born May 24, 1921, in Buckland, the son of the late Lela Vivian (Meeker) and Charles Martin Mitchell. On June 14, 1947, he married Mary Maxine Lee, who survives in Wapakoneta.
“We Ended In Disaster” indeed sounds like a cool name for a band that straddles pop, punk and metal sounds and fits in perfectly with a genre of music known for its other nefarious group names, such as Against All Authority, the Dead Milkmen, and Gorilla Biscuits. However, in contrast to some of those famous names, the name of the local band based out of Wapakoneta came from true happenings amongst its members.
“It has inspirational meaning to us,” said Ben Gardner, 20, the lead guitarist of the band.
A local seventh-grader has a passion for cars.
In his spare time, Wapakoneta Middle School student Jerry Wright can be driving his RC cars.
“I do competitions with them,” Wright said of the remote control cars. “Dad’s Toy Shop holds a ‘Fun Run’ and I go there every summer.”
Wright said at these competitions, the hobbyists drive their cars around and see whose car can jump the highest.
Wright, who has a total of five RC cars, races them outside.
