Jack L. Cramer 77, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born April 2, 1935, in St. Marys, to Helen (Taylor) and Oscar Cramer Sr., who preceded him in death.

Joseph Pickering, 86

Joseph William “Joe” Pickering, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born July 27, 1926, in West Alexandria, the son of Eva G. (Roach) and Karl V. Pickering, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 20, 1949, he married Joan O. Hodges, and she died Feb. 7, 2000.

Joseph W. “Joe” Pickering, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System.

Faris Earl, 85

Faris L. “Fuzzy” Earl, 85, of Waynesfield, died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at his residence.
Faris was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Waynesfield, to Clarice Vane (Focht) and Victor Vernon Earl, and they preceded him in death. On July 17, 1948, in Nuremberg, Germany, he married Zita Vogl. and she survives in Waynesfield.
Also surviving are three daughters, Barbara Earl, of Waynesfield, Elaine (Ted) Bear, of Elida, and Nancy (Ron) Wildermuth, of Ada; a brother, M. Kenneth Earl, of Wapakoneta; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Sweethearts for 70 years

For the past seven decades, Betty has been Vernon’s Valentine.

And for those same 70 years, Vernon has been Betty’s Valentine.

This year, Betty and Vernon Schwarck will be celebrating with chimichangas at El Azteca.

“I guess when we were first married he would get me a heart-shaped box of candy or flowers, but that hasn’t been for years,” Betty said.

The 89-year-olds lived a simple life through the years, she said.

That simple life may just be what kept their love so strong, Betty remarked.

Curfew law closer to passage

The Wapakoneta police chief provided a couple of definitions Wednesday to be incorporated into the city’s curfew ordinance as city elected officials work to improve the legislation.

DWP initiative will be part of budget

The Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership (DWP) is getting the funds needed to start a program to improve the look of downtown buildings.

Wapakoneta City Council Finance Committee members agreed to set aside $10,000 in the 2013 city budget for a façade improvement program proposed by Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership in September. There will not be separate legislation, but they intend to set aside the $10,000 each year for the next three years as part of the budget process.
