LIMA — As the Wapakoneta swim teams took the pool for the Sectional Meet Saturday, most everyone on the team had it as a goal to swim well.
And they did.
An impressive 15 swimmers will compete at the district swim meet in Bowling Green Friday and Saturday.
Eight swimmers from the girls team will travel to Bowling Green State University to compete for a chance to swim at the State Meet in Columbus, Ohio.
Seven swimmers from the boys team are scheduled to swim this weekend, as well.
The Wapakoneta Redskin boys basketball team drew the No. 3 seed in their Sectional Tournament Sunday afternoon, and they now await a match-up against the No. 4 seed Celina Bulldogs in the first round.
The top-seed Bath Wildcats chose the top half of the bracket, and the next four seeds chose the bottom half of the bracket until it was full to avoid playing the Wildcats for as long as possible.
The city’s recreation director does not want more than $12,000 in a state grant to be wasted so he is working on ways to mix city labor with donations to remodel a building for bathrooms near The Rotary Gazebo at Harmon Park.
Wapakoneta Recreation Director Jack Hayzlett received estimates to remodel a storage building at Harmon Park at a cost of $35,000. The city received a Ohio Department of Natural Resources Nature Works grant totaling $12,397 to help with the project, but the city would lose the money if the project is not completed by December 2014.
Jack L. Cramer 77, of Wapakoneta died at 10:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

WAYNESFIELD — Waynesfield-Goshen Board of Education members elected to offer Superintendent Chris Pfister a two-year contract after discussion in executive session during Monday’s school board meeting.
Board President David Pepple said board members decided to offer the two-year contract due to the positive steps the district has made under Pfister.
“We think he has done a great job,” Pepple said. “He has been working hard with the legislature in bringing equal opportunity for funding in lower evaluated districts.”
Faris L. Earl, 85, of Waaynesfield, died at 2:50 a.m. today, Feb. 12, 2013, at his residence.

Ellen Edna Schierholt Huckriede, 87, of St. Marys, , died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Otterbein Retirement Community on Grand Lake St. Marys.
She was born July 17, 1925, in New Bremen, the daughter of Emma (Heitman) and Frank Schierholt, who preceded her in death. She was married to Earl Huckriede on Dec. 12, 1944, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen.
Planning for the future, the Auglaize County commissioners recently purchased a Wapakoneta house.
The property at 104 W. Pearl St. was sold to the commissioners at a sheriff’s sale for $51,000, which was the highest bid offered. Commissioners had agreed prior to the sale not to offer more than the appraised value of $75,000 for the home and two-story garage.
The sale of the home was ordered for non-payment of property taxes.
Nicholas F. Bergman 88 of Botkins, died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at Heritage Manor Nursing Center.
He was born Aug. 23, 1924 in Egypt, to the late Katherine (Dircksen) and Fred Bergman. On Sept. 27, 1947, in St. Patrick, he married Norma Berning, and she survives in Botkins.
