Overpass option

November 5, 2013

The Interstate 75 overpass at Bellefontaine Street and even the one at Ohio 67 should be considered for beautification projects to commemorate the area’s history when they are reconstructed by the state, city officials and administrators say.
Wapakoneta Mayor Rodney Metz and Wapakoneta City Council Councilor-at-large Dan Graf said they plan to initiate a search for grants to improve one, if not both, of the overpasses to pay tribute to Neil Armstrong and

Fowl move to foil foul situation

November 5, 2013

With fowl continuing to foul up the city, Wapakoneta city administrators say they hope experts from The Ohio State University have some answers at a seminar later this month.
For years, city residents have complained about the black birds in the late summer and fall taking roost in the tall trees making noise and bird excrement throughout the city, especially near Veterans Memorial Park.
City residents also have complained about Canada geese feces creating problems throughout the city, especially on the sidewalk along the Auglaize River and the midget football practice field.

Local war vet to be inducted

November 5, 2013

With Veterans Day approaching, Auglaize County has one more reason to be proud of its military heroes — a local veteran is to be honored by the state for his community achievements.
World War II Navy veteran John “Jack” Kuffner will be one of 15 Ohio veterans inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame from the class of 2013.
Veterans and their families will be presented with a medal and plaque signifying they are a member of the Hall of Fame.

Wapakoneta (9-1) appeared twice in the Division III poll during the 2013 season, on Oct. 15 and 22, after receiving the minimum 12 points, although the team did not earn enough points either week to rank within the top 10.
