Doris Mae Metzger Schneider, formerly of Wapakoneta, passed away on Sunday, Nov 3, 2013, in Maryland. Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church with burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, Silver Spring, Md.

Frances C. Gehrlich, 97

Frances C. Gehrlich, 97, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at The Gardens of Wapakoneta. She was born April 23, 1916, in Ottawa, Ohio, the daughter of Rudolph and Anna (Eberle) Kolhoff, who preceded her in death. On May 30, 1940, she married Edward W. Gehrlich Sr., and he died April 26, 2004.

Roger “Bud” W. Christler, 86

Roger “Bud” W. Christler, 86, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 8:58 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born in Shelby County on Feb. 21, 1927, to the late Henry C. and Margaret “Maggie” (Rickert) Christler. On Dec. 26, 1954, he married the former Rosemary Hawkins, and she survives.

Alvin C. Seigel, 63

Alvin C. Seigel, 63, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, in St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born Aug. 18, 1950 in Auglaize County, the son of the late Robert and Bessie Become Seigel. On April 16, 1982, he married Karen S. Naseman, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Mr. Seigel was a farmer and producer. He graduated from Wapakoneta High School and enjoyed taking care of animals, playing cards and visiting with friends.

Three generations of soldiers sat around a table together sharing their memories Saturday night.
They didn’t serve in the same branch of the U.S. military and two of them didn’t know each other before the night began, but their service to their country made them brothers.
Volunteers from Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8445, the post’s men’s and women’s auxiliaries and community donors helped bring 175 veterans and their guests together for a special dinner and evening in their honor at the VFW.

The Women’s Civic League of Wapakoneta hosted the third annual “Showcase of Homes,” an event where three Wapakoneta homes opened their doors to the community for a view of the interior remodeling and designs.
WCL member Edna Rayburn said each of the three showcased houses coincidentally were featured in the garden showcase held earlier in the year. Since guests had an outside view, many came back for a view inside the house, as well.

Harmon Field to host 2 more playoff games

Harmon Field in Wapakoneta will be the site of at least two more playoffs games this fall after having hosted the town’s Redskins this past Friday.

The stadium will be a neutral site for a pair of postseason games, one Friday and one Saturday, as Convoy Crestivew (9-2) and Ada (8-3) will meet there at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a Division VI, Region 20 semifinal, while North Lewisburg Triad (11-0) and Sidney Lehman Catholic (10-1) will kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday in a Division VII, Region 26 semifinal.
