NFL player visits WMS

Wapakoneta Middle School football fans received a surprise Thursday when NFL linebacker Devon McDonald gathered students for a DARE assembly.
The former Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Storm player visited the school with a message of hope. McDonald spoke about many youth-related issues, including bullying, goal-setting and good decision-making.
DARE Officer Samuel Blank organized the assembly with middle school guidance counselors as part of “Red Ribbon Week,” a week dedicated to spreading awareness about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Windy weather did not stop area facilities from hosting their trick or treat for the children.
At Auglaize Acres, resident’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and others stopped in for a visit.
“This is a time for them to socialize with the younger generation,” Activities Coordinator Barb King said. “The residents’ faces light up when they see the kids — it’s an important thing for them.”
King said the trick-or-treat event allowed residents and staff members to mingle with family members that they speak about every day.

Brown backs Troop Talent Act

For one U.S. legislator, he cannot believe a soldier who drives a truck in Iraq cannot transfer those skills automatically into a CDL in the United States.
He cannot believe a soldier who works on trucks and tanks cannot receive automatic certification to work on cars stateside.
He cannot believe a medic who worked to save a soldier’s life during a military operation cannot easily transition into an EMT or paramedic certification in the country he devoted his life.

OHSAA opposed to separate postseason tournaments

The state’s governing body of high school athletics is now publicly opposed to separating postseason tournaments between public and non-public schools, Ohio High School Athletic Association Commissioner Dan Ross wrote in a one-page memo dated Tuesday that was recently sent to member schools.
