A city administrator proposed a road map for upcoming Wapakoneta street improvement projects totaling more than $6 million to be completed during the next five years.
Wapakoneta Engineering Superintendent Mary Ruck generated the five-year plan which calls for reconstructing Perry Street and West Auglaize Street and improving the area behind downtown businesses as well as repaving and improving the downtown section of Auglaize Street and Stinebaugh Drive.

Façade first year success, leaders say

A downtown revitalization program proved to be very popular with downtown property owners hoping to take advantage of a joint city-private organization effort, a Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership member says.
Façade Improvement Committee Chair Sue Siesel provided Wapakoneta City Council members during Monday’s meeting with an update of the program as its first year nears its conclusion.

Singing for a cure

One Wapakoneta native used her voice to take a stand for breast cancer awareness, in front of an audience of 63,207 football fans.
Jennifer Christiansen, 43, sang the national anthem prior to the Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions NFL game Sunday afternoon at Ford Field in Detroit.
Christiansen’s brother, Dave Christiansen, of Wapakoneta, said he attended the game and was proud of his sister’s performance on the field.
“It was absolutely wonderful — very emotional,” Dave Christiansen said.

Wapakoneta appears in poll again

The Wapakoneta Redskins made their second straight appearance in the Associated Press poll, a weekly ranking of the top Ohio high school football teams as voted upon by media members.

The Redskins (7-1) were tied for 18th in Division III on Monday, receiving 17 points along with Tipp City Tippecanoe (8-0).

Teams receiving at least 12 points appear in the poll after the voting.

Wapak first appeared in the poll Oct. 14 when it was ranked 16th in Division III.
