Locals to "Dance the Magic" at Disney World

Many families tune into the Disney Christmas parade as a Christmas morning tradition, but this year, a few local dancers will “Dance the Magic.”
Three dancers — Madison Sams, Dylan Snyder and Olivia Tregoning — from The Dance Centré, of Wapakoneta, will be performing at Walt Disney World in Florida in the Dance the Magic Parade on Dec. 5-8. After submitting their auditions of a Disney-choreographed dance routine, the girls were chosen to participate in two major events in Disney World. 

Crafters show off wares at fundraiser

Four years ago, one Wapakoneta woman had yet to precision cut her first piece of wood with a scroll saw.
On Saturday Vickie Schaub manned a booth selling her creations at the Wapakoneta Noon Optimist Craft Show held in the Wapakoneta High School cafeteria and gymnasium.
“This is my first time having a booth anywhere,” Schaub said, sitting at the end of a table in the middle of gymnasium. “I think I am doing OK.”

Talking trafficking

Within a 30-minute walk of downtown Wapakoneta, an Ohio professor says someone within that radius is involved in or has been affected by human trafficking.
With an extensive highway system, a high number of truck stops, close proximity to Canada and a high poverty rate, Ohio is one of the most vulnerable states in the United States for human trafficking, University of Dayton political science professor Anthony Talbott said Sunday during an hour-long presentation on human trafficking at the St. Joseph Parish Life Center.

Botkins boys, girls advance to regionals

The Botkins Trojans will make a bus trip Troy this coming Saturday after qualifying to regionals this past Saturday at the district level.

The Trojans were third out of nine schools Saturday in a Division III Southwest District boys cross country race at Miami Valley Career Technology Center in Clayton.

Botkins was one of the top four teams qualifying to regionals Saturday.

Wapakoneta freshman Zokfie qualifies to regionals

Allie Zofkie will be the lone representative of Wapakoneta High School at the regional cross country level, as the freshman qualified from districts Saturday.

The Wapakoneta Redskins finished ninth overall out of 11 teams in a Division I Northwest District girls cross country meet at Pearson Metro Park in Oregon.

The top four teams advanced from districts Saturdays, and the top 16 individuals not on qualifying teams also advanced.

Trojans win sectional after penalty kicks

The Botkins Trojans won a sectional championship Saturday in a shootout.

Botkins prevailed 4-3 over the Casstown Miami East Vikings in a Division III Southwest District boys soccer sectional final in Casstown.

The win advanced Botkins to the district level.

After a 1-1 tie after regulation and two scoreless, 15-minute overtime periods, the match turned to penalty kicks to determine the winner.

After six kickers, Botkins prevailed with four goals to three.
