Survey sought: Salary, job duties would be revisited

By 2014, the Auglaize County commissioners plan to have a new salary and wage schedule in place to help guide pay for county employees — including a suggestion to move toward pay increases based on merit and away from across the board raises.

Commissioners met recently with representatives of Clemans & Nelson, a Lima management consulting service, to discuss possibilities for conducting a salary survey of county employees’ jobs in comparison to those in other similar counties. The last time such a survey was done was 2000.

W’field revisits animal ordinance

WAYNESFIELD — Waynesfield Village Council members returned to discussing an issue confronting the village for nearly the past year  — farm animals within the village limits.

They addressed the issue at great length Monday, but again took no action. However, Mayor Mike Ridenour urged the council to continue to focus on the issue and make a decision that will be acceptable to all residents  involved.

New C’ville fire chief eases into new post

CRIDERSVILLE — An area fire chief keeps busy by doing what he loves.

Cridersville Fire Chief Rick Miller, who took over the new post after former Fire Chief Ron Mertz retired at the end of 2012, says he grew up a firefighter.

“I grew up at the fire department,” Miller said. “My dad was a fireman and was a lieutenant before he left.”

So whenever his father went to the fire department, Miller would tag along.

“It was like my second home,” Miller said.

Kaylee Patton breaks record, credits family

DOLA — In front of a loyal fan base and in front of a basketball oriented family, Waynesfield-Goshen’s point guard, Kaylee Patton, made history Tuesday night. 

Patton broke the all-time career scoring record at Waynesfield-Goshen High School. She now has 1,819 career points, breaking the previous record set in 1991.

Kyle Herndon held the previous record for 22 years with 1,803.

Mildred Swaidner, 96

Mildred A. “Millie” Swaidner, 96, of Bellefontaine, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Green Hill Care Center in West Liberty.
Millie was born Dec. 8, 1916, in Bellevue, Pa., the daughter of the late Mary (Pitzer) and J. Clyde Amon. On April 4, 1941, in Pennsylvania, she married Arthur W. Swaidner, and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1998.

Redskins slide past Sidney in close game

SIDNEY — One coach says he was ecstatic with the play of his team, one coach says he was underwhelmed.

One coach says his team play inspired basketball, one coach says they need to play better or they will lose on Friday.

One coach watched his team rally to take a first period and first half lead, one coach watched his team take control of the game in the third period and win 60-54.

Kathryn Diedrich, 84

Kathryn “Katie” Diedrich, 84, 318 N. Wayne St., St. Marys, died at 1:02 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at her daughter’s residence in Jackson Center.
She was born April 12, 1928, in Moulton, the daughter of Opal (Katter) and Robert Crusie. On Aug. 29, 1945, she married Carmon Diedrich, and he preceded her in death on April 6, 1989.
She is survived by three sons, Michael Diedrich, of St. Marys, Edwin Diedrich, of Sebring, Fla., and Terry Diedrich, of Coral Springs, Fla.; and two daughters, Deborah Wright, of Jackson Center, and Cindy Keeling, of St. Marys.
