Elizabeth E. Chesbrough, 77

Elizabeth E. Chesbrough, 77, of Wapakoneta, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at her grandson’s home in Chattanooga, Tenn.
She was born March 1, 1934, in Benton, Penn., the daughter of Lois (Hess) Yost and Frank Yost.
She moved to Wapakoneta when she was 18. She married Millard Boyer and they had two children, Tom Boyer and Arlene Boyer.
Millard Boyer and Tom Boyer preceded her in death.

Director caught soliciting in company vehicle

The sudden resignation by the director of a county agency came the same day he faced criminal charges in Allen County.
Auglaize County American Red Cross Director Adam Suchland submitted a letter of resignation on Oct. 25, the same day he was arrested for soliciting a prostitute in Lima.
Allen County Red Cross Director David Collins confirmed Suchland submitted a letter of resignation from the position on Oct. 25 after he was questioned on the incident. Collins said the resignation was accepted immediately by the American Red Cross. The Allen County office oversees the Auglaize branch.

County salaries to increase

Salary line items across all Auglaize County offices and departments are increasing by 2 percent, according to the 2012 budget finalized by Auglaize County commissioners late this week, and the commissioners voiced their pleasure with the final budget numbers.
“We’re happy with the budget,” Commissioner John Bergman said, noting that “not everyone got all their requests.”
Bergman said the commissioners spent a lot of time developing the county’s budget for 2012.

Investigation: Harassing letter left in superintendent's mailbox

Deputies with the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a harassing letter placed in the home mailbox of the Wapakoneta City Schools superintendent.
“It appears that the correspondence may be related to current contract negotiations in the district,” Sheriff Al Solomon told the Wapak-oneta Daily News on Friday about the letter found last weekend in the mailbox of Keith Horner’s Cridersville area residence.

Linda Lenhart, 70

Linda C. Lenhart, 70, of 314 Market Street, St. Marys, died at 11:17 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012, at the St. Marys Living Center.
She was born Jan. 12, 1941, in New Knoxville, the daughter of Dorothy (Glass) and Ernest Kattman. On June 8,1953, she married LeRoy Lenhart, and he survives at the residence.
Also surviving are her mother, Dorothy Kattman, of New Knoxville; and five daughters, Laura Hoehamer, of Rockford, Jodi Hagan, of St. Marys, Patti Schaublin, of Columbia, S. C.; Susan Paul, of New Bremen, and Caren Mahlie, of St. Marys.

Eva Bigelow-Carver, 82

Eva Bigelow–Carver, 82, formerly of 524 Locust Str., St. Marys, died at 9:50 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born July 15, 1929 in Langley, Ark., to Lenora (Cowart) and Lon and Brown.
Surviving are a son, Larry (Julie) Bigelow of Sarasota, Fla.; and a daughter, Cynthia (Greg) Snyder, of St. Marys.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Harold Bigelow; and a second husband, Thomas Carver.

Marian Holthaus, 83

Marian Albers Holthaus, 83, of Wapakoneta, died 9:47 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Auglaize Acres.
She was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Anna, the daughter of Helen (Raterman) and Anthony Albers, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 19, 1950, she married Norbert C. Holthaus, and he survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are two sons, James (Violetta) Holthaus, of Wapakoneta, and Gary (Helen) Holthaus, of Wapakoneta; two step-grandchildren, Becky (Gary) Baldosser and Brenda (Rodney) Snavely; four step-great grandchildren, Scott, Darin, Nathan, and Kayla; a sister-in-law, Judy Albers, of Sidney.

WRESTLING: Redskins sweep WBL tri-match

ELIDA — Wins are nice, but Wapakoneta Redskins varsity wrestling coach Jason Rostorfer was looking for more than just wins on Thursday night.

He got both as the Redskins swept Elida and Defiance in a Western Buckeye League tri-match at Elida High School.

Wapak edged Elida 38-30 in the opener then rolled past Defiance 48-25 in the second match.

BATH TOWNSHIP — Controlling the boards can be just as important as putting the rock through the net in basketball and Wapakoneta found out that lesson the hard way in its 55-36 loss to Bath in a key Western Buckeye League matchup Thursday night.

By outrebounding the Redskins, 36-18, the Wildkittens overcame a subpar offensive night to stave off a determined yet frustrated Redskin squad which continually watched Bath get two and some time three shots at scoring by snaring carom after carom.

Water fund strong: Remote-read meters spike capital budget

Beyond debt payment and water distribution on the new Wapakoneta Water Treatment Plant, the city expects its next largest expenditure for 2012 to be the second phase of installing new water meters.

Wapakoneta City Council Finance Committee members reviewed the Water Fund Thursday as part of the annual budget process during a committee meeting at the Wapakoneta City Administration Building.
