A week ago, the Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys basketball team came up just short of stunning the unbeaten and state-ranked Defiance Bulldogs.
That game came on the heels of a nail-biter, five-point loss to the previously state-ranked Elida Bulldogs and a one-point win over the defending Western Buckeye League champion Celina Bulldogs.
If Wapak caught the trio of Bulldogs off-guard, it won’t get that opportunity against the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans on Friday.
The proverbial cover is blown.
Wapak is no longer a bye week for opposing teams.

For three quarters, St. Henry and Wapakoneta battled toe-to-toe.
Then, suddenly, St. Henry stomped on the toes of its namesake and left them black-and-blue as it pulled away to a 53-47 win in a non-league varsity girls basketball game at Wapakoneta.
Trailing 37-33 late in the third quarter, St. Henry went on a 15-1 run — including 10 unanswered points to start the fourth quarter — to take a 48-38 lead with 3:15 left in the game.
Wapak was held without a field goal for a span of 8:31 during the run.

The Tigers improve to 6-7 on the season and Hardin Northern falls to 2-14 for the year.
“This is probably the best team effort we have had,” Patton said. “We have had injuries all year and we have been playing with different groups all year,” Patton said. “This is the fourth game with this group and I think this was our best team effort and probably are best scoring balance we have had.”
