The Auglaize County commissioners are inviting the public to a rededication ceremony and open house for the newly renovated Auglaize County Courthouse on Sunday.
The rededication ceremony is scheduled from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. with the open house scheduled to follow from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Auglaize County Courthouse, located at 201 Willipie St. The ceremony is to be held on the east side of the courthouse. Limited seating is available for the rededication, but residents may bring their own lawn chairs.
With a continuing resolution and sequestration on the horizon, one U.S. senator from Ohio says both are a mistake and legislators should be prioritizing the country’s spending to rein in the debt and deficit.
Republican U.S. Sen. Rob Portman says sequestration has been ineffective and has prevented Congress and President Barack Obama from reaching a budget which addresses the federal deficit and federal debt. He noted he continues to work with members of both parties to develop legislation to avoid sequestration from going into effect.
As November’s presidential election draws closer, Auglaize County Elections Board members continue to get ready.
During Wednesday’s board meeting, they proofed ballots, discussed new computers, made decisions about poll workers and discussed duties of new temporary employees.
Ballot proofs for each of the county’s precincts checked out fine and are expected to be printed beginning next week.

CRIDERSVILLE — A local police chief decided to have an ordinance pulled from its readings, so Cridersville Village Council Safety Committee members could take some more time to discuss the issue.
As the ordinance concerning the keeping of animals in the village was on the docket for its scheduled second reading Monday, Cridersville Police Chief John Drake decided to request the ordinance be tabled and have councilors review the legislation to make it more fair.
Three local Eagle Scouts and a leader are representing Wapakoneta at a national memorial service for hometown, and American hero, Neil Armstrong.
The Boy Scouts were asked to attend by the Armstrong family. While growing up in Wapakoneta, Neil Armstrong had been an Eagle Scout and member of Troop 14.
All Wapakoneta Eagle Scouts were invited to attend the service in Washington, D.C., as there was interest in representing Armstrong’s hometown and youth at the service.
Christian rock is taking the stage next week at the Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center.
The concert, which features three bands, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 22, at the Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center. A portion of the proceeds are to go toward Fellowship for Christian Athletes (FCA).
Opening the show is local band, WiFive, followed by Slawdog, of Lancaster, and then the featured act, Messenger.
“We are excited about this show,” said Pam Egbert, of ProDuctions, of Wapakoneta.

Jack Huebner, 52, of Wapakoneta, died early Sunday morning, Sept. 9, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 2, 1960, in Lima, the son of Martha (Moell) and DeWitt Huebner, who preceded him in death.
CRIDERSVILLE — Two Cridersville officials, who have served village residents for decades, announced their plans of retirement.
At Monday Cridersville Village Council meeting, Village Administrator John McDonald and Fire Chief Ron Mertz made public their decisions to retire from their respective positions.
On Monday, Mayor Lorali Myers released McDonald’s letter of intent to retire to the councilors.
Work on one new park should start yet this year, while improvements to a second new park will likely wait until next spring.
Wapakoneta Breakfast Optimist members intend to start working this fall with city crews to develop the park at the site of the former Centennial Elementary School, a city administrator said.
A report from an elderly Wapakoneta woman has prompted police to warn other area residents of a possible scam.
Wapakoneta Police Clerk Denise Kohler said a woman living on East Pearl Street reported Sunday morning that a man claiming to have been her paper boy years ago came to her home. After presenting himself as a former paper boy, the man, who was described as being in his 40s, walked inside the house.
