LaKhrista M Rigdon, 27, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, in American Falls, Idaho, from a car accident.
She was born July 16, 1985, in Lima.
Surviving are her mother, Teresa L Poindexter; her father, Mark E Rigdon; three sisters, Latisha M. (Brian) Schroeder, LaNeea M. (Michael) Segovia, and LaManda M. (Desaeth) Hernandez; and two half-sisters, Katrina Rigdon and Brianna Rigdon; 3 children, Haley M. Merritt, Natalie M. Merritt, and Kaden J Nebeker; a great-grandmother, Ruth Kortier; nine nieces and nephews; and lots of cousins, aunts and uncles.
Dorothy Vaubel Braunwart, 90, of Othello, Wash., passed away Sept. 18, 2012, of natural causes.
She was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Wapakoneta, the second of four children born to Elsie and Herman Vaubel. On May 31, 1944, in Wapakoneta, she married Robert Braunwart.
Surviving are three sons, Kurt, of Othello, Wash., Eric, of Vancouver, Wash., and Tod, of Vancouver; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Bob Byrne, of Shaker Heights; a sister-in-law, Claire Vaubel, of Ada; and many nieces and nephews in Ohio.
Marilyn S. Baxter, 52 of Waynesfield, died at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health Care System.
Arrangements are incomplete at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville.
Irene Peters, 89, of Wapakoneta. died 11:46 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012.
She was born Feb. 10, 1923 in New York City, to Rosa and George Baka, who preceded her in death. On May 29, 1954, she married John Peters, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, John R. Peters, of Lima, and Larry G. (Jean) Peters, of Wapakoneta; two daughters, Linda (Kenneth) Cartwright, of Columbus Grove, and Bonnie (Eugene) Rosenbeck, of Wapakoneta; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A mild winter last season, both locally and across the state, resulted in a 27 percent drop in salt bids for the county this week.
“Salt bids came in at the lowest price since 2007,” Auglaize County Engineer’s Office Chief Deputy Engineer Gary Kuck told the Wapakoneta Daily News.
Bids in 2007 were $47 per ton of salt. For 2012-13, the lowest bid came in at $49.68 per ton.
“The last four years, they have been within $1, between $67.84 and $68.55,” Kuck said.
In an effort to save Ohio jobs and to protect Ohio consumers, Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown supports proposed legislation which would require companies to notify consumers their calls are being transferred abroad.
It goes without saying that the Redskins wanted to win the WBL tournament.
But senior golfer Caleb Acheson said if they left the WBL tournament the victors, it would be ‘party time.’
There was no party.
The Redskins tied for second in the regular season, and took third in the WBL tournament, leaving them with a third place finish in the league.
Regular season champions, Van Wert, also took home first prize Thursday morning.
WAPAKONETA — “I wouldn’t call it a blow out,” said varsity head coach Marc Dyrness. “But they blew through us.”
Wapakoneta hosted Ottawa-Glandorf Thursday evening in a WBL matchup, and the better team went home the victor.
“They are bigger, faster and stronger,” Dyrness said after the Redskins fell to O-G, 5-0.
Following last week’s 24-21 loss to the Celina Bulldogs, Wapakoneta Redskins varsity football head coach Doug Frye and his squad are looking to bounce back this week in a home game against the Defiance Bulldogs.
Frye said the Defiance program is strong, and the team is led by long-time veteran Jerry Buti.
“Jerry (Buti) is an exceptional coach, his team plays with great spirit and great toughness,” Fyre said. “We expect to have our hands full Friday night.”
Most of you don’t know me.
I’m the new sports guy at the paper. I’m a graduate of The Ohio State University. I’m an avid sports fan who loves organized sports and Hawaiian Pizza. Most of you still don’t know me.
