Fire Fighters hired

September 7, 2012

While the two newest members of the Wapakoneta Fire Department have similar personalities, they started their lives in different towns, attended rival high schools and arrived at their decision to be a firefighter in different manners.
But Kevin Bellman and Cody Wycuff also have one other thing in common — they just want to help people and make a difference in their community. Their divergent paths crossed this summer when these two men, with similar personalities, were hired by Wapakoneta Fire Chief Kendall Krites.

GOP HQ opens

Local Republican Party members officially opened the Auglaize County Republican Headquarters Friday as the election looms only two months away.
The headquarters is located in the Grandview Plaza at the former location of Grandview Video.

Board members receive award

Two Auglaize County Junior Fair Board members are honored to be recognize with a prestigious award.
Buckeye Beavers 4-H Club member Sarah Wilker, of St. Marys, and Auglaize Leaders of Tomorrow 4-H Club member Hayley Miller, of Wapakoneta, were the recipients of the Eric Vogel Memorial Award after the Auglaize County Fair.

Howard Crocker, 70

Howard Crocker, 70, of Cridersville, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012.
Surviving are a wife, Linda; two sons, Jim and John; a daughter-in-law, Barb; and a son-in-law, Daniel.
He worked as an independent contractor for the Wapakoneta Daily News delivering newspapers to the Botkins area.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland, Ind.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Annabelle Tangeman, 98

Annabelle Lucille Tangeman, 98, died at 3:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.
She was born March 29, 1914, in Auglaize County, near Buckland and Wapakoneta, the daughter of Ruth Regina (Newland) Weimert and George Henry Harruff, and they preceded her in death. On Dec. 24, 1932, at the home of Reverand A.M. Daehnke in Cridersville, she married Virgil Franklin Tangeman.

Curfew changes: Legitimate events and guardianship on the table

Local named notable citizen

Dedicated civil servant. Talented musician. Local historian. Generous and courteous gentleman. That about sums it up when describing the 2012 Outstanding Auglaize County Senior Citizen.

Vern Doenges, former county auditor, dance band warbler, collector of postcards and author of the daily “Looking Backward” column, and “all-around good guy” will be honored Sept. 18 during the annual celebration of senior citizens at the Auglaize County Council on Aging (ACCA).

City seeks grant for damage

Wapakoneta city administrators recently started the process to receive state and federal funds in wake of the June 29 storm which caused millions in damage to the area.

Wapakoneta Safety-Service Director Bill Rains informed Wapakoneta City Council members Wednesday he attended meetings with local Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and members of FEMA where he initiated the paperwork to secure grant money for the city.

Gary L. McCoy Sr.

Gary L. McCoy Sr., 64, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Lima Manor.
He was born Oct. 27, 1947, in Canton, Ill., the son of Betty Jo (Hukill) and Richard McCoy, who preceded him in death.
On Aug. 28, 1972, he married Judy L. McBeth, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are two sons, Craig McCoy and Richard McCoy; a daughter, Michelle Schrober; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Karen Jo Reed and Kathy Blumenstein.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary McCoy Jr., and a brother,, Michael McCoy.

Rebecca Suzanne 'Becky' Mosler, 65

Rebecca Suzanne “Becky” Mosler, 65, was called home by the Lord at 9:28 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at her residence. Her husband and children were at her side as she peacefully departed after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Becky was born Aug. 19, 1947, in Lima, the daughter of Mary Louise (Gehrlich) and Elmer Neumeier. Her father preceded her in death. On Aug. 20, 1966, she married the love of her life, Thomas J. Mosler, who survives.
