Local Browns play in Cleveland

Most adults can recall a special moment from when they were kids that they will remember all their lives.

The members of this year’s Uniopolis Browns youth football team will always remember the 2012 season —  and it hasn’t even officially started yet.

In their final preseason scrimmage, the Uniopolis Browns tangled with the Shawnee Seminoles in front of what will likely be their largest audience of the year — 54,297 screaming fans, complete with the Dawg Pound.

Parking problem prompts review

A city administrator plans to examine the parking situation near Max’s Dairy Bar to ensure proper traffic flow at the intersection of East Benton and Bellefontaine streets.

Wapakoneta resident Paul Janning brought the parking issue to Wapakoneta City Council’s attention during Wednesday’s meeting. He presented two photographs showing no curb markings or yellow paint, which is typically used to indicate a no parking area, on the curb along the north side of East Benton Street, and one showing traffic congestion.

Donald Fisher, 66

September 6, 2012

Donald L. ’Donnie’ Fisher, 66, of Wapakoneta, died Sept. 5, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima from complications following a stroke on May 27, 2012.
He was born Dec. 31, 1945, in Lima, the son of Hilda (Eisert) and Clem Fisher, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 23, 1968, he married Pam Opperman, and she survives.

Foul language leads to reprimand of football coach Frye

After last Friday’s football loss to the Elida Bulldogs, Wapakoneta Redskins varsity head coach Doug Frye used “unacceptable” profanity while addressing his team in the locker room, sources say, resulting in the team’s offensive coordinator resigning and at least six players leaving the team.

For his conduct, Wapakoneta City Schools administrators on Wednesday reprimanded Frye.

Acheson and Crow lead Redskins past Greenville

The Redskins hit the links Wednesday afternoon, and took a one-stroke win back into the clubhouse.

Led by senior Caleb Acheson, who carded a 36 on the afternoon, Wapakoneta was able to defeat Greenville, 163-164.

Varsity head coach Kenny Wayman said he was happy to get the win, but he needs to see improvement, especially heading into the heart of league play.
