Ellen V. Drexler, 81, of Wapakoneta, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 4, 1930, in Augsburg, Germany, the daughter of Franzika and Nikolaus Brunnhuber, who preceded her in death. On Feb. 23, 1949, she married Walter L. Drexler, and he survives.
Russell H. "Russ" Briem, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Wapakoneta Manor.
He was born June 20, 1926, in Springfield, the son of Effie (Smith) and George Briem, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 13, 1952, he married Janis E. Merkle, and she survives.
FRYBURG — With rain and thunderstorms expected all weekend including Sunday, the Fryburg Homecoming Festival escaped the remnants of Hurricane Isaac when it came time for the one-day event.
The rain held off despite overcast skies as the small community held the 122nd annual event Sunday
“We were all scared of the rain,” festival chair Cindy Koenig said. “Basically it turned out to be a perfect evening. I think people were praying for it.”
Wapakoneta City Schools have again been ranked effective, with three of the district’s four buildings receiving excellent ratings.
The information is based on preliminary 2012 state report card data released by the state to Wapakoneta City School’s Superintendent Keith Horner. Due to cheating concerns at the state level this year by some schools in the state, Ohio Department of Education (ODE) officials have delayed the release of each district’s information to the public as it typically does in the middle of August.
ST. MARYS — As the calendar changes to September, a local county official says residents should keep the threat of severe weather in mind during fall.
September is Preparedness Month — a campaign sponsored by FEMA that looks to make residents cognizant of severe weather and disasters and how to plan accordingly for the events. Auglaize County EMA Director Troy Anderson said fall has become an active weather season for Auglaize County.
Betty Fisher, 84, formerly of 309 Augustus St., St. Marys, died at 3:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at the St. Marys Living Center.
She was born Jan. 16, 1928, in St. Marys, the daughter of Nora (Ankerman) and William Thielk. On May 18, 1954, she married John E. Fisher, and he preceded her in death Nov. 20, 1985.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys, with the Rev. Bill Makiofficiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be given to Zion Lutheran Church.
Robert E. Hunter, 89, formerly of 800 Motz St., St. Marys, died at 3:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys
He was born March 29, 1923, in St. Marys, the son of Vivian (Clark) and Robert Hunter. On April 14, 1945, he married Charleen Fark, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2004.
Surviving is a daughter, Nancy Koch, of St. Marys.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Hunter.
Dennis F. Lammers, 72, of New Knoxville, passed away suddenly on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at his residence.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1939, near New Knoxville. He was the son of Silas and Lola (Howe) Lammers. On Sept. 10, 1966 he married Marlene Knost and she survives near New Knoxville.
Also surviving are his children; Brian (Maria) Lammers of New Knoxville, Beth (Dan) Butcher of Wapakoneta, and Blair (Beth) Lammers, of New Knoxville, his grandchildren; Alexandra, Benjamin and Victoria Lammers, Ethan, Dean and Conner Butcher, Tyler, Carson and Megan Lammers.
Dennis C. Egbert, 65, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born March 30, 1947, in Sidney, the son of Myra L. (Neth) and Charles F. Egbert, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 20, 1971, he married Deborah K. New, and she died June 10, 1997.
Surviving are a sister, Doris J. Will, of Fort Wayne, Ind., a brother-in-law, Myron Opperman, of New Knoxville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Henrietta Opperman.
