W-G gets first NWCC win against Perry

WAYNESFIELD —  There were long runs, big passes, kickoff returns for touchdowns, fumbles returned for touchdowns, penalties, interceptions, the list goes on and on. And there was still the second half to play yet.

Seriously, in a game that featured plenty of peaks and valleys, and some downright hard-hitting football, it was the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers who had the bigger bag of tricks in a 42-24 win over Lima Perry Friday.

County courthouse opens up after rededication

After a decade of talking, consulting, planning and restoring, a historical county building is finally complete.

Local and state officials opened the Auglaize County Courthouse during a special Auglaize County rededication ceremony held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday with approximately 450 to 500 people in attendance for the ribbon cutting and dedication of the newly renovated building.

State Sen. Cliff Hite, R-Findlay, summed it up by saying that history has come alive as his speech, focused on a history teacher and legislator’s perspective.

Moving memorial

On July 20, 1969, the world watched in awe as astronaut Neil Armstrong, an Eagle Scout from Wapakoneta, took man’s first steps on the moon.

On Sept. 13, 2012, three Eagle Scouts from Wapakoneta — Eric Limbert, Zach Orchard and Alec Temple — watched in awe as they stood in the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., as special guests at Neil Armstrong’s memorial service. Armstrong died Aug. 25 from complications after heart surgery earlier in the month.

Troopers: Seat belts save lives

Seat belts save lives.

That’s the message troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) are again stressing to motorists.

“There is simply no disputing that wearing a safety belt can save your life,” OSHP Lt. Anne R. Ralston said.

She said that is why they are encouraging all motorists to buckle-up.

OSHP Sgt. Brian Jordan said when safety belts aren’t worn, the chance for serious injury is much higher in a crash.

Comeback not in the cards: Redskins fall to Bulldogs, 24-21

CELINA —  The situation was familiar. One chance, needing a score and coming up just short. 

The Wapakoneta Redskins now have two losses on the season, both coming in dramatic and entertaining fashion. 

The Redskins traveled to Celina Friday night, but the Bulldogs went home the victor, 24-21.

Marlene Lambert, 76

Nelson Greve, 83

September 17, 2012

Nelson B. “Nellie” Greve, 83, of Wapakoneta, died at 6:34 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the Lima Memorial Health System following a sudden illness.
He was born Feb. 5, 1929, in Shelby County, the son of Hulda (Steinke) and Edward Greve, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 7, 1953, he married Anna E. Eversman, and she survives.
Surviving are a daughter, Beverly (Tom) Lee, of Wapakoneta; two sons, Douglas Greve, of Botkins, and David (Brenda) Greve, of Wapakoneta; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Luetta Ruppert, Victoria Rohrbaugh, Iva Lou Bergman.
