Leo S. Steinke, 90, died at 3:43 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at Dorothy Love Retirement Community, 3003 W. Cisco Road, Sidney.
He was born March 2, 1922, in Fryburg, the son of Cecelia (Frankenberg) and Ferd Steinke, who are deceased. On Nov. 20, 1946, he married Mary Catherine Dunn on November 20, 1946, and she passed away in 1991.

The “buck” stops here — at least the bucks should, a councilor says, until the Wapakoneta City Council Finance Committee learns the reasons for a number of supplemental appropriations to transfer funds.
Wapakoneta city leaders learned the state is providing nearly $2 million for another street project.
Wapakoneta Councilor-at-large Dan Graf announced the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) awarded the city $1.8 million to cover 80 percent of the total reconstruction of West Auglaize Street from South Blackhoof Street to West Pearl Street. The city would be required to provide 20 percent, or approximately $350,000, toward the total cost of the project scheduled to start in 2015.
Graf called the announcement “great news” for the city.
Beginning next week, an area village’s website should have a new look.
Cridersville Village Operator Jarid Kohlrieser said the new website for the village of Cridersville will be up and running by Aug. 30 — if not before.
“I think this website is awesome,” Kohlrieser said. “It’s user friendly and I think if someone gets on to the website, they will have no problem finding what they are looking for.”
Linda A. Petty, 69, of Wapakoneta, formerly of Carthage, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Wapakoneta.
Other arrangements are incomplete at the funeral home.
Theresa M. “T-Bird” Anderson, 58, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:58 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.
She was born Feb. 2, 1954, in Wapakoneta. to Wanda I. (Stotts) and Theodore J. Kohler. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives in Wapakoneta.
Rita Mary Oehlhof, 86, formerly of Spencerville, and the Defiance Commons in Wapakoneta, died at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at the Auglaize Acres, where she had resided three years.
She was born March 25, 1926, in Toledo, the daughter of Clara D. (Lewandowski) and Walter J. Reed, who are deceased. On Sept. 14, 1946, she married John Frederick Oehlhof, who also resides at the Auglaize Acres.

For years a Wapakoneta woman served her community through her medical knowledge, sometimes working and being on call for 24 hours straight.
Ruth Baeumel, who began working as an emergency medical technician (EMT) in Wapakoneta 33 years ago, went on her last call this weekend. She decided it was time to retire.
Local data backs what national scientists declared — July was one of the hottest months ever on record.
Federal scientists say July was the hottest month ever recorded in the contiguous United States, breaking a record set during the Dust Bowl years of the 1930s. The average temperature for July was 77.6 degrees, breaking a mark set in July 1936 by 0.2 degrees, according to records kept by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
One local student is enjoying his summer poolside — and is not ready for the season to end.
Wapakoneta High School senior Brad Severt, who has spent his summer lifeguarding at the Wapakoneta WaterPark, said he is going to miss it this fall when he goes back to school.
“It just looked like fun,” Severt said of why he decided to lifeguard. “I live just across the street and I have friends that do it.”
So Severt began his training earlier this year, and enjoys seeing the people everyday.
