Thomas I. Wolfe, 75, 1905 Kingsbury Drive, St. Marys, died at 8:05 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born May 26, 1937, in Benton Harbor, Mich., the son of Helen (Bartlett) and Archer Wolfe. On Aug. 22, 1964, he married Mary K. Adams, and she survives at the residence.
Also surviving are two sons, Mark Wolfe, of St. Marys, and Dr. Michael Wolfe, of New York City; and two daughters, Sandra Smock, of St. Marys, and Pamala Kennedy, of St. Marys.
Michelle R. Gerdeman, 46, of Wapakoneta, died at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 23, 1966, in Bluffton, the daughter of Mary (Bassitt) and Thomas Gerdeman, who survive in Columbus Grove.
A Wapakoneta bank was recently named among the 359 safest in the United States.
Home Savings Bank, located at 1 S. Blackhoof St., not only was listed among the top safest banks in America by an article published in MSN’s money section in July, but the community bank also made the list among only six other Ohio banks.
“It doesn’t surprise me,” Home Savings President Jim West told the Wapakoneta Daily News. “We’re very proud of being named one of the safest banks, it’s a real honor.
Hundreds of people from throughout Auglaize County turned out Tuesday for National Night Out at the Harmon Park Gazebo in Wapakoneta.
“It seems to get bigger every year,” Wapakoneta Police Chief Russ Hunlock said. “It is a good way for us to interact with the citizens.”
National Night Out, which is held the first Tuesday each year in August, is hosted in more than 15,000 communities in all 50 states.
Family and friends of a Wapakoneta teenager who died after a seven-year battle with brain cancer are continuing with a golf outing to raise money for a scholarship in his name.
The second-ever Jason Strauser Memorial Golf Outing is planned for Saturday at Prairie View Golf Club, outside of Waynesfield. This year the main fundraiser for the scholarship fund in Jason’s name also is to feature bingo, chicken dinners, auctions and 50/50 and door prize drawings.
Michelle Renee Gerdeman, 46, of Wapakoneta, died at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at her residence.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

Duane Allen Hower, 36, of Wapakoneta, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born Dec. 31, 1975, in Lima, to Mickie S. (Howell) and Eddie D. Hower, who survive in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are a son, Garrett Hower, of St. Marys; two sisters, Elisha Hower, of Wapakoneta, and Cathy Hower, of Columbus; two nephews, Thomas Schoenlein, of Wapakoneta and Conner Frame, of Wapakoneta; paternal grandmother, H. Maxine Leis, of Lima; and maternal grandmother, Marlene Howell, of Wapakoneta.
Eunice P. “Polly” Boggs 79, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at Auglaize Acres.
She was born May 4, 1933, in Zanesfield, the daughter of Laura M. (LaVan) and Clifford R. Chamberlain, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 27, 1951, she married Vernon D. Boggs, and he survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are a son, Vernon E. (Linda) Boggs, of Van Wert; two daughters, Leona Tippie, of Wapaakoneta, and Julie (Roy) Long, of Wapakoneta; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers; and four sisters.
