Merl Robert Lauth, 80

Merl Robert Lauth, 80, of Findlay, passed away with his family at his side at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at The Heritage in Findlay.
He was born Dec. 15, 1931, in North Vernon, Ind., to the late Jeanetta (Kelso) andFrancis Merle Lauth. On Nov. 6, 1953, he married Mary Sue Davis, and she survives.

Craig O. Weaver, 68

Craig O. Weaver, 68, of Wapakoneta died 7:18 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2012 at James Cancer Center, Columbus.
Mr. Weaver was born March 25, 1944 in Lima to Forrest E. and LeDonna M. Baber Weaver, who survive in Lima.
On Oct.17, 1964 he married Pamela J. Hardesty who survives in Wapakoneta.
Mr. Weaver graduated from Shawnee High School and Northwestern Business College. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and received an honorable discharge in 1968. He then went to work in the print industry until he retired in 2008.

Ruth Ann Frey, 72

Ruth Ann Frey, 72, of Wapakoneta, died at 6:57 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the Van Wert Hospice Center.
She was born May 19, 1940, in Richmond, Ind., the daughter of Mildred (Layman) and Harold Laine, who preceded her in death. On March 4, 1972, she married Richard D. “Dick” Frey, and he survives.

Shawn Sidel, 36

June 1, 2012

Shawn Sidel, 36, of Lima, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 29, 1975, in Lima, the son of the late Julia (Smith) and the late Keith Sidel. He married Teresa Sidel, who preceded him in death.
There will be no visitation or services.

Gerelda G. “Gerry” Anthony, 83

Gerelda G. “Gerry” Anthony, 83, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:50 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at her residence.
Arrangements are incomplete at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

Wapakoneta heads back to Columbus

COLUMBUS — The battle continues.

Thanks to some defensive greatness, a gritty performance on the mound, and more timely hitting the Wapakoneta Redskins are playing for the first team state championship in school history.

Wapakoneta advanced to the Division II title game with a 3-2 win over the West Holmes Knights (23-7) in a semifinal matchup Thursday morning at Huntington Park in Columbus.

Wapak seeks ‘final moment’

Wapakoneta fans easily outnumbered fans from Millersburg West Holmes by a nearly two-to-one margin during the state semifinal 3-2 win on Thursday.

The Redskin faithful has always produced a solid following to most sports events — even prompting an inquiry from the Ohio High School Athletic Association so they could spread the news.

Wapak fans have seen some very good teams make it to high levels come the end of the season.

CRIDERSVILLE — As an area village’s leaders begin to discuss their pay package for 2013, the discussion of the police chief’s pay sparked a lengthy conversation.
