Green energy code: Wind, solar bill hits councilors’ desks

An attempt to build a 125-foot wind turbine last year in the city prompted Wapakoneta City Council members to review city ordinances and building codes to best deal with renewable energy sources, or green energy.

Now more than a year’s worth of work by council’s Lands and Buildings Committee members is before councilors for their approval. During Monday’s council meeting, councilors heard the first of three readings of two pieces of legislation aimed to help residents know what is acceptable and what is not.

Museum launches midnight movies

A local museum director hopes to start a midnight movie tradition.

Beginning Saturday, The Armstrong Air and Space Museum is hosting a midnight showing of a science fiction once a month, on the 56-foot diameter Astro Theatre in the museum.

“Midnight movie screenings are a long tradition in the sci-fi genre,” The Armstrong Air and Space Museum Executive Director Chris Burton said. “The series will also feature films not commonly experienced in a cinema setting.”

Money shifted to pay final bills

UNIOPOLIS — Uniopolis Village Council members voted unanimously to pay off a debt in anticipation of unincorporating the village in November.

During the April council meeting, councilors approved a move transferring $37,000 from its savings to pay off a sewer loan and set aside another $7,400 to pay on the wastewater lagoon project.

Councilors continue to move in the direction of unincorporating, or dissolving the village, and discussed the issue during a brief meeting on Monday.

Charles Kitchen, 68

Charles Gary Kitchen, 68, 16244 State Route 66 North, St. Marys, died Friday May 4, 2012 at his residence.
He was born April 24, 1944, in Lawrence Co., Ky., to Lydia Newsome and Milton G. Kitchen. On March 28, 1964, in Olive Hill, Ky., he married Calista Middleton, who died Feb. 12, 2012.
Surviving is a son, Garrett Kitchen, of St. Marys; and three daughters, Penny Ashley of Wyandotte, Mich., Roberta Kitchen, of Wapakoneta, and Leslie Kitchen, of St. Marys.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys, with the Rev. Bill Maki officiating.

Ruth Bowersock, 93

Ruth D. Oehlhof Bowersock, 93, died at 2:35 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2012, in Stuart, Fla.
She was born Sept. 20, 1918, in Spencerville, the daughter of Trilby (Rupert) and George Oehlhof, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 10, 1943, she married Gerald V. Bowersock, who preceded her in death on March 27, 1993.

Dylan Matthew Thomas Everage, 16, 302 N. Spruce St., St. Marys, died at 11:47 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 22, 1995, in Columbus, the son of Cara (Mabry) and Matthew Everage. They survive at the residence.
Also surviving is a sister, Kristin McClintock, of St. Marys.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys, with the Rev. Mike Everage, Elder of the Garden of Love Old Regular Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
