Community grows with garden venture

Gardens recently located at the Wapakoneta Family YMCA are part of a community effort to produce fresh vegetables and get children and adults active and working outdoors.

Aligning with goals of the Wapakoneta Family YMCA to bring community members together for fun outdoor activities, promote physical activity and good nutrition, and introduce children to healthier living, a $3,000 grant from Lowe’s Never Stop Improving: Toolbox for Education program, allowed for raised and regular garden beds to be laid on the south end of the family activity center.

Aiming to educate people on antique guns

Collecting has become more of an obsession for Fryburg’s Paul Dudgeon rather than just a hobby.

“It’s like smoking cigarettes,” Dudgeon said. “Once you start, you can’t stop.”

Some of Dudgeon’s collection of antique guns are on display as one of many displays at this year’s Buckeye Farm Antique Show being held this weekend at the Auglaize County Fair Grounds.

Wapak office lends an ear

A Fort Wayne businessman decided to locate his third office in Wapakoneta to help people communicate with the people they love.

Ted Blanford, originally from Temperance, Mich. and a U.S. military veteran, opened Summit Hearing Solutions at 10 W. Main St. to test individual’s hearing as well as to test, clean, adjust and repair hearing instruments. They also have peripherals such as batteries and wax guards.

He said he opened an office in Wapakoneta for several reasons.
