BASEBALL: Wapak's Crawford one-hits Shawnee

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Twenty up.  Twenty down.

Only the 21st Shawnee Indians batter got the best of Johnny Crawford.

The Wapakoneta Redskins junior came within one out of throwing a complete-game no-hitter in Wapak’s 4-0 win over the Shawnee Indians in a Western Buckeye League varsity baseball game Tuesday night at Shawnee High School.

A hanging changeup was his only misstep of the night.

In Wapakoneta’s 7-4 win over Shawnee in girl’s high school softball action Tuesday, one thing was for sure.

No one wanted to discuss the big elephant in the room.

With seven Shawnee varsity players serving suspensions for alcohol consumption, six of them starters, both teams came into the game facing enormous pressure.

TENNIS Shawnee blanks Wapak

The Wapakoneta Redskins suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hand of the perennial tennis power and Western Buckeye League favorite Shawnee Indians on Tuesday at the Rotary Club Courts at Wapakoneta High School.

Wapak fell to 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in the WBL.  Shawnee is 4-0, 2-0 WBL.

In first singles, Wapak’s Nic Oen defeated Jason Barton 6-1 in the first set before Barton bounced back to win the next two sets 6-2 and 6-4.

Shawnee’s Zach Diltz knocked off Joey Jose 6-3, 6-0 in second singles.

Mustangs lasso trophy: Perfect season ends with state title

The Auglaize County Mustangs went to New Philadelphia Saturday morning with high hopes.

They returned as state champions.

The Mustangs won the state Special Olympics Division III basketball tournament championship with an 81-61 win over the Fayette County Dragons.

A team can be comprised of players between the ages of 13 and 40 who have some form of disability.

Work takes off: Utility work ongoing ahead of airport terminal

Preliminary work for The Neil Armstrong Airport terminal building continues to move in anticipation of final construction drawings and plans, an airport official says.

County Airport Manager Sean Stroh said they are continuing site survey work to extend drainage and utilities from the village of New Knoxville.

Mote and Associates, of Greenville, is completing a topographic survey of a square area of land between the village, Kuck Road, the airport runway and Ohio 219. The survey is of drainage, electrical and telephone lines.

New library youth services coordinator takes over

The Auglaize County Public District Library has a new face.

Karie Maurer-Enneking joined the staff taking over as the new youth services coordinator. She assumes the position left by Beth Steiner, who is the new library director. Steiner took over as director after Jo Derryberry retired earlier this year.

Maurer-Enneking brings more than 14 years of experience working with children and management in both the corporate and non-profit sectors in the library system.
