Robert E. Becker, 87, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:54 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System.
Arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, in Wapakoneta.
S. Andrew Liming, 57, of St. Marys, was found dead Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at his residence in St. Marys.
Arrangements are being completed with Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys.
Ruth Eleanore Holtzhauer Rohrbach, 88, joined other family members and friends when she passed away at 4:15 a.m. Feb. 17, 2012.
She was the daughter of Olvina (Hoagland) and Joseph Holtzhauer.
She married Norman Rohrbach on May 11, 1946, whom she continued to love throughout her life.
She is survived by a son, James Rohrbach, of Sidney; a daughter, Theresa Kemmann, of St.Marys; a daughter, Rebecca Koverman, of New Bremen; and a son, Timothy Rohrbach, of New Knoxville.
Those who preceded her in death were her husband, Norman Rohrbach, and son, Norman Thomas Rohrbach.
Donald âDonâ William Yost, 79, of Wapakoneta, husband of Susan Kay McElroy Yost, died Tuesday evening, January 31, 2012, at St. Josephâs Hospital, in Savannah.
Born in Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Frank Yost and the late Lois Hess Yost.
He was married to his wife for 53 years, and she survives in Wapakoneta.
A local organization is encouraging downtown visitors to âlook up.â
Local students teamed up with the Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership and a downtown building owner to create a second Victorian-style artwork.
Wapakoneta High School art students painted murals that are displayed in the windows above the Riverside Art Center and Custom Staffing Wapakoneta â on the upper level of the building.
The five murals create a scene with a painter and children set in the Victorian era in the building owned by Red Dog properties, at the intersection of Auglaize and Willipie streets.
ST. MARYS â Local school and county officials gathered at Memorial High School in St. Marys on Friday morning to practice their responses in the event of an emergency.
The Auglaize County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) held a tabletop exercise for first responders and school officials centered around a scenario of a vehicle crash into a substation along U.S. 33, near the high school. Auglaize County EMA Director Troy Anderson ran the various officials through a set of scenarios in real time and assessed their responses.
Imagine being given the task of making an operational moving vehicle using only index cards, tape and straws.
Sound pretty simple? Wapakoneta Middle School students found it is not quite as easy as it may seem.
âIt took a lot longer than what you would expect,â student Wesley Temple said of the experiment. âThere is always something you have to change.â
Templeâs group of five students is one of eight groups comprised of approximately 35 students that are participating in an education effort to enrich local gifted students.
Mildred M. Wolfal, 90, formerly of St. Marys, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Santa Rita Nursing Center in Green Valley, Ariz.
She was born April 21, 1921, in Spencerville, to Amy (Snyder) and Ralph Clark. She married Clinton Wolfal
She is survived by a son, Richard Jones, of Dumas, Ark.; and a daughter, Susan Beahrs, of Sahuarita, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Jean Koch.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Miller â Long & Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Helen P. Copeland, 93, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System, surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Allen County, the daughter of Velma (Severns) and Don Hardin, who preceded her in death. On April 27, 1945, she married Richard R. Copeland, and he died March 14, 2001.
SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee coach Jeff Heistan couldn’t remember ever seeing anything like it.
And Wapakoneta coach Rusty Allen didn’t ever want to see it again.
Heistan’s Indians blasted out to a 29-2 first-quarter lead and steamrolled their way to an 82-46 win over Allen’s Redskins in a Western Buckeye League varsity girls basketball game Thursday at Shawnee High School.
