Michael D. ‘Mike’ Hoffman, 73

Michael D. ‘Mike’ Hoffman, 73, of Lima, died at 8:12 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
He was born April 29, 1938, in Logansport, Ind. He is the son of Mildred (Murray) and Robert E. Hoffman. Both parents are deceased. On Oct. 26, 1957 he married Janet R. Whitmer, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Hoffman was a plant manager with International Brake of Lima and also worked in sales with Prudential. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Lima First Assembly of God Church. He was a big Notre Dame fan and loved hunting.

David Raymond Kreitzer, 56

David Raymond Kreitzer, 56 of Lima, died at 6:32am on Dec. 31, 2011 at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on April 2, 1955, in Springfield, Mass. to Hazel (Rudity) and Raymond Kreitzer, who both preceded him in death. Dave was raised in Wapakoneta where he graduated from high school in 1973.
On June 4, 2005, he married Donna M. Gerad, who survives in Lima.

Barbara M. Nagel, 88

Barbara M. Nagel, 88, of Wapakoneta, died 5:45 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at The Gardens, Wapakoneta, where she had resided for the past six years. She was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Rose (Strominger) and Wilbur Nagel.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Theresa Nagel, of Wapakoneta, 15 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, William H., Robert G. and J. Paul Nagel.

Teachers take opportunity to give their side of talks

Two weeks after an invitation only meeting where Wapakoneta City Schools administrators explained their position to a select crowd, teachers took advantage of a public comment period to voice their side.

Teachers addressed Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education members and administrators Saturday for more than two hours during a special meeting of the board.

Student has success in the classroom and on the athletic field

BOTKINS — No matter what it might be, competitiveness has fueled Botkins High School junior Ethan Zimpfer to plenty of success whether it is in the classroom or on the athletic field.

Zimpfer is the son of Deb and Joe Zimpfer.

“He is the kind of person that gives 100 percent all of the time,” his father said. He is a very good athlete and he loves to win.”

SWIMMING: 'Skins finish 7th at Holiday meet

LIMA — The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys and girls swimming teams both finished seventh in the Holiday Invitational on Thursday at the Lima Family YMCA.

The Shawnee Indians won both groups.

In all, 18 boys teams and 17 girls teams competed in the annual event.

For the Redskins boys team, Ryan Kremer grabbed third in the 200-yard individual medley and fourth in the 100 freestyle.

Nate Hager took third in the 200 freestyle. He also placed sixth in the 50 freestyle.

Ryan Greve was fifth in the 100 breaststroke.

'Last, final and best' offer implemented, teachers prepare to strike

Wapakoneta City School teachers are preparing for the worst — a possible strike — and hoping for the best — Wapakoneta City School administrators and board members reopening negotiations.

Wapakoneta City School Board of Education members voted 4-0 during a special board meeting Saturday morning to implement its “last, final and best” contract offer which took effect  New Year’s Day. Board member Pat Gibson had an excused absence from the meeting.
