WAYNESFIELD — Waynesfield-Goshen High School junior Mindy Brookhart is a self-motivator.
A look at her schedule makes it easy for people to believe her.
Brookhart, who has been a football cheerleader since the second grade, is a basketball cheerleader for the first time this year. The daughter of Heidi and Tom Brookhart has two older brothers, Troy, 18, and Paul, 21.
She keeps herself so busy, she spends her spare time just catching up on the necessities of life.
With only a couple hours left on this city worker’s last day, he is checking his notes and going over files.
On Friday, Wapakoneta Engineering Department technician Jim Harpest ignored cutting a cake in his honor and instead reviewed 10 pages of notes he made to help others in the office after he leaves.
An annual children’s holiday event drew hundreds of children and adults to Wapakoneta this weekend, as the event organizer says many factors contributed to the large turnout.
Children made holiday memories to last a lifetime Saturday as they filled downtown Wapakoneta streets during the sixth annual Children’s Hometown Holiday.
“There are huge crowds,” Children’s Hometown Holiday organizer Elaine Poppe said, “more than last year.”
After surrendering a sizable first period lead shrink to three points midway through the third period, the Wapakoneta Redskins went on a 14-2 run to finish the period and end any hopes the Indian Lake Lakers had of upsetting the home team on Saturday.
After dispatching of the Piqua Indians in the season opener, Redskins varsity coach Matt Bradley gave his squad credit for being gritty in capturing a 59-37 victory against Indian Lake.
VAN WERT — The Wapakoneta boys swimming team proved to be the area’s best at the Van Wert Relays, as the Redskins took home first place.
The girls team, not that far off the boys mark, finished third behind Versailles and Bryan.
Combined the Redskins finished second, 14 points behind Versailles.
The meet featured 14 relays, Wapakoneta won one of them and finished second in five other events.
BELLEFONTAINE — The Botkins boys basketball team got the season off to a great start by winning the Ben Logan Tip-Off Classic 64-51 over Mechanicsburg.
The Trojans got down early 12-4, which included a 10-2 run by the Indians.
BOTKINS — The Botkins Lady Trojans got an easy victory Saturday, 48-17 over Riverside. The Trojans lead from the start, jumping out to an early 10-0 lead with 2:53 left in the opening quarter.
Botkins started the game with a 13-0 run, before the Pirates scored their first basket with 1:30 left in the first quarter. The Lady Trojans took an 18-2 lead at the end of first quarter, aided by 10, first quarter points from Claire McCullough.
Mary C. Kennedy, 80, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:50 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.
Joseph “Joe” M. Greve, 43, of Botkins, died at 10:32 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at his residence.
He was born May 4, 1969, in Lima, the son of Theresa D. (Schaub) and Joseph B. Greve. He was preceded in death by his father and his mother survives in New Knoxville. On April 29, 1994, he married Connie Barhorst, and she survives in Botkins.
