Students talk Christmas

A local second-grade student says Christmas is all about giving and making others happy.

Wapakoneta Elementary School student Tagen Patterson says she is looking forward to Christmas this year.

“It’s (Christmas) is about giving,” Tagen said. “I like giving because it makes me feel happy.”

Tagen noted the holiday focuses on giving and spreading happiness.

“Some people don’t get to celebrate Christmas, so I get to give them a gift to make them feel happy,” Tagen said.

As many as 300 Wapakoneta High School students have given back to others this holiday season in a myriad of ways throughout the community.

“I believe that it is important for our staff and our kids to be active in our community at all times, especially around the Christmas season,” Wapakoneta High School Principal Aaron Rex said. “Our students are able to learn about what community service is and how to help others who may be in need whether it is a medical condition or financial need.

United Way expects 5K shortfall

ST MARYS — The United Way of Auglaize County was approximately $50,000 shy of its $350,000 fundraising goal as of Wednesday, but organizers are projecting only a $5,000 to $7,000 shortfall by the time corporate payroll-deduction giving is included, which represents small donations from individuals.
