November 12th
David M. McCool, 71, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 4:35 a.m., Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at the Springview Manor in Lima.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.
Nadine D. Frese, 78, of Wapakoneta, died at 9:55 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, with Rev. Cathlene Hayes officiating.
Other arrangements are incomplete at the funeral home.
Doyle R. “Butch” Yost 75, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:48 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at his residence.
He was born April 24, 1937, in Stillwater, Pa., to Lois B. (Hess) and Frank D. Yost, who preceded him in death. He was married to Elizabeth A. (Miller) Scott for 23 years, and she survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are a son, Jeff (Rhonda) Yost, of Cridersville; a daughter, Diane (Gerald) Miller, of Wapakoneta; four grandchildren, Angela, Jeffrey, Elizabeth, and Catherine; two great-grandsons, Aaron and Gabriel; a brother, Frank Yost; and a sister, Lois Gierhart.
Ned F. Coon, 80, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:18 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 9, 1931, on his grandparents’ farm near Buckland, the son of Eva (Ramga) and Harley Coon, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Werst, of Wapakoneta; two sons, Tim (Pam) Coon, of Wapakoneta, and Matthew (Amy) Coon, of McCordsville, Ind; a grandson, Allen Thorpe, of Cincinnati; and a great-grandson, Jacob Thorpe, of Cincinnati.
November 9th
The Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that happened at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Infirmary Road and Ohio 501.
While the investigation is incomplete, an officer at the scene said it appears a Honda CSV was north bound on Ohio 501 when they stopped and attempted to turn west onto Infirmary Road. The motorist did not see a Chevy Cavalier driving south on Ohio 501 and failed to yield while turning. The Cavalier came to rest off of the side of the road and the Honda was on its side in the middle of Ohio 501.
With temperatures climbing into the high 50s, Becky Noe knew she had to take advantage of the nice weather to cut the grass around her Ramga Road home.
At approximately 1 p.m. Thursday, Noe went outside and climbed aboard the lawnmower when she noticed smoke from her neighbor’s barn — the barn she knew housed Mary and Ray Holbrook’s 12-year-old Tennessee Walker.
For the first time in at least the last 84 years, a Republican candidate for president captured Auglaize County with greater than 70 percent of the vote but failed to capture the White House.
On Tuesday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney earned 16,802 votes, or 73.44 percent of the ballots cast in the race in the county and failed to defeat the Democratic candidate.

A local woman struggled to find the words to show her appreciation and tears welled up in her eyes after she was named the recipient of an annual prestigious award in Wapakoneta and being recognized for her passion for helping others.
Carol Berg was named the 2012 Citizen of the Year at the 2012 Community Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce.
