A local woman struggled to find the words to show her appreciation and tears welled up in her eyes after she was named the recipient of an annual prestigious award in Wapakoneta and being recognized for her passion for helping others.
Carol Berg was named the 2012 Citizen of the Year at the 2012 Community Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce.
BUCKLAND — Buckland Village Council members unanimously chose Thursday to investigate the possibility of passing a 1 percent income tax levy in the village to generate more funds for the operation of the village.
According to Ohio Revised Code, municipalities can levy up to 1 percent on residents income tax to generate funds without going before the voters at the polls. Councilors agreed to consider the issue after discussing a renewal on a five-year, 2.6-mill property tax levy that likely was defeated Tuesday.
Auglaize County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Troy Anderson discussed with Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) members about details for the Homeland Security Grants.
He noted there are two Homeland Security Grants, the fiscal year 10 and the fiscal year 11, which are worth $66,789 and $35,882, respectively.
“We decided we were going to handle two requests from Auglaize Acres,” Anderson said during Wednesday’s LEPC meeting.
Voting for all Western Buckeye League honors is complete, and nine Redskin players are touting league honors after their 7-3 season.

This season has been an explosive one for three-way player Johnny Crawford. While he was a main target at the wideout position all season, Crawford earned honors on the defensive side of the ball.
Crawford was named first-team defensive back.

The state’s top-ranked Coldwater Cavaliers play unbeaten West Liberty Salem at Alexander Field on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
The two teams are meeting for the first time.
It’s that awkward time.
That time in between fall sports and winter sports. There aren’t a lot of sporting events. There isn’t a lot to report on.
But that doesn’t mean Wapakoneta High School athletes aren’t putting in the time and the effort to succeed.
