October 30th
Maureen A. Coyle, 77, of Wapakoneta, died 7:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born Jan. 15, 1935, in Staten Island, N.Y., the daughter of Ann and Patrick Cassidy. She married James R. Coyle, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Linda (Daniel) McCune, of Wapakoneta, Debbie (Mark Harshbarger) Martin, of Wapakoneta, Pat (Kim) Weiler, of St. Marys, and Holly (Donnie Browning) Wallace, of Botkins; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, John (Barbara) Koritar, of Denver, Colo.

An invasion of apocalyptic proportions resulted in fun for all involved Saturday afternoon down the middle of Auglaize Street.
Kids A Priority of Wapakoneta (KAPOW) held its third annual Zombie Walk and attracted 80 zombies for a good cause.
“It is bigger than last year, which is nice,” KAPOW President Mark Selvaggio said. “We always hope to add a few more every year.”
CELINA — Greeted by a raucous crowd that packed the Celina Fieldhouse, the Republican ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan energized their Republican base in this part of the state a mere nine days before the election.
“Celina, are you going to help us win this thing,” Ryan said, asking the crowd moments after being introduced by Ohio Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor. “As we think about what’s important to us. Let’s remember this is the most important election in our lifetime, no matter what generation you come from. We have a lot stake.”
Wapakoneta City Schools eighth-grader Allie Zofkie says she considers herself having been a competitive runner for two years. However, her mother, Jodie Zofkie, said it began much earlier than that.
“When she was younger, she would just run,” Jodie Zofkie said. “I noticed very early that she was going to be a runner.”

Republican incumbent Christina Lambert is facing Democrat challenger Anne Hamilton on the Nov. 6 ballot for the position of Auglaize County recorder.
Both women are making their first attempt at an elected office.
Lambert, who has been serving in the position since Aug. 1, 2011, is seeking her first election to the officer after Ann Billings retired.
Lambert, 50, lives in Wapakoneta with her husband, Bill Lambert, and they have two grown children. She had worked in the Recorder’s Office for 30 years before officially being appointed to the position.
Christmas cheer will soon be filling the streets of Wapakoneta, as local shops gear up for an annual event.
Wapakoneta’s Holiday Open Houses, which is scheduled to kickoff Friday and continue through the weekend of Nov. 2-4, has organizers excited because a handful of new shops will be joining in on the festivities this year.
“This is a neat way to kick off the holidays,” Wapakoneta Antique and Specialty Shops (WASS) Treasurer Charlotte Williams said, “and there are six new stores that will be joining us.”

MIAMISBURG — It's not often you offer a team congratulations following a bitter defeat.
Waynesfield-Goshen ended its regular season on a sour note as they dropped a 45-12 decision to Dayton Christian Friday, but still found itself sitting in the postseason.
Despite the loss, the Tigers got help from Jefferson Township, South Charleston Southeastern Local, and New Miami. Those three teams came into the game as the only three teams able to catch the Tigers, and all three lost.
KENTON — The Wapakoneta Redskins were sliding all over the field, through the mud, in the rain Friday night in Kenton.
But most of that came after the game. They were sliding in celebration.
Thelma P. Brown, 94, of Cridersville, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 26, 2012, at Otterbein-Cridersville.
Thelma was born July 1, 1914, in Uniopolis, the daughter of the late the late Myrtice Conner and William Miller. On Oct. 24, 1942, in Lima, she married Arden L. Brown, and he survives.
Also surviving are a sister, Lenora Sybert, of Centerville; several nieces; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Miller; and two sisters, Rita Creps, and Ida McClure.
