Troopers investigate wreck

Three people suffered injuries in a multiple vehicle crash in the northbound lane of Interstate 75 near the U.S. 33 exit at Wapakoneta at 11:18 a.m. Monday.

Wapakoneta Post Commander Lt. Scott Carrico said this morning that a report still had not been completed concerning the collision and troopers with the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) responsible for investigation of the accident were busy at the scene of another mishap this morning in Minster.

Festival draws crowd

From crafts to entertainment and chicken dinners to children’s activities, a first-ever event for a county agency had officials calling it a success.

The Auglaize County Harvestfest, sponsored by the Auglaize County Council on Aging (ACCA) and held Saturday, attracted a large turnout, the executive director said.

“We are up to 650 people,” ACCA Executive Director Christina Roby said at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the midpoint of the event. The event was held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds.

Defending suspect in Army ‘tragedy’ a challenge for native

Defending a U.S. Army major, who is accused of shooting and killing 13 people and wounding dozens of others at Fort Hood in Texas, proves challenging for a former resident who is now part of the legal team tabbed to represent the accused shooter.

U.S. Army Lt. Col. Kris Poppe, who worked with his father, John Poppe, after and before returning to serve as an attorney for the Judge Advocate General’s Office and for the U.S. Army, is a member of the defense team assigned to defend Maj. Nidal Hasan.

Farmer involved in accident

A rural Wapakoneta man is listed in critical condition after being involved in a farming accident Saturday morning.

Bill Berg, 71, 13870 Kohler Road, Wapakoneta, was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to St. Rita’s Medical Center at 11 a.m. after a farming accident at approximately 10:30 a.m.
