James R. Streight, 89, of Bellefontiane, formerly of Wapakoneta, died Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2011, at his daughterâs home in Bellefontaine.
He was born Dec. 26, 1922, in Wapakoneta, the son of Edna (Koch) and Marcy Streight, who preceded him in death.
Auglaize County Sheriff Allen Solomon released this morning that the sheriff of Shelby County was arrested today on a grand jury indictment for sexual battery.
On Sept. 20, a special Auglaize County grand jury handed down an indictment warrant for Shelby County Sheriff Dean A. Kimpel, 57. He is charged with sexual battery and victim control impaired.
Kimpel was brought to the Auglaize County Correctional Center and is awaiting a court appearance.
Administrators of two area cities say they would oppose any proposed move by Gov. John Kasich and his administration to shift municipal income tax collections from local municipalities to Columbus.
In recent weeks, members of Kasichâs administration suggested in the future that the state would assume collection of municipal income taxes, which would total more than $4 billion. Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor told a panel earlier this month the move would cut red tape for businesses operating in multiple locations.
A logjam removal project to clean the Auglaize River may end up costing residents in Allen and Auglaize counties more than initially expected, a county official says.
A joint board of supervisors over the logjam removal project has tentatively removed the 18-mile portion that traverses through Putnam County, Commissioner John Bergman told members of the Auglaize County Farm Bureau Tuesday at their breakfast meeting at RJâs Coffee Cup.
A fall style show planned for Sunday is to spotlight the largest thrift store in West Central Ohio â Mercy Unlimited â located right here in Wapakoneta.
Doors open to the public at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at Mercy Unlimited, located at 38 E. Auglaize St. The style show is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m.
The event is to feature a master of ceremonies and 50 models wearing fashions, which can be found at the thrift store. All shapes, sizes and ages are expected to strut their stuff down the runway, which is to extend the length of the store.
Charles A. âChuckâ Lee, of Wapakoneta, died at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at St. Ritaâs Medical Center in Lima.

Garrett Rhodes, 21, 06950 County Road 33A, Wapakoneta, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at the scene of a single-vehicle accident in rural Auglaize County.
He was born Aug. 8, 1990, in St. Marys, the son of Donny L. Rhodes of Wapakoneta and mother Samantha Clouser of St. Marys.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys. Private family burial will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Harold L. Suchland, 90, 9 Haarbye St., New Bremen, died at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011, at the St. Marys Living Center.
He was born June 11, 1921, in St. Marys, the son of Maude (Dowden) and Rueben Suchland. On Oct. 18, 1942, he married Helen E. Menchhofer and she preceded him in death on December 28, 2008.
Survivors are his children, Harold E. Suchland, Jim Suchland, Mike Suchland, all of New Bremen, and Tom Suchland of North Pole, Alaska.
Ferdinand Thomas Fisher, 68, previously of Wapakoneta, died Sept. 19, 2011, at Winterhaven Hospital in Winterhaven, Fla.
He was born June 26, 1943, in Wapakoneta, the son of Reba (Wirick) and Earl Fisher. In July of 1966, he married Linda Steinecker. On March 29, 1980, he married Constance (Luma) Conaway, and she survives in Bowling Green, Fla.
DEFIANCE â The Wapakoneta Redskins scored twice in the first six minutes and cruised to a 3-1 win over the Defiance Bulldogs in a Western Buckeye League varsity boys soccer match Monday at Defiance.
Junior Travis Bertram put Wapak on the board at the 4:17 mark. And less than two minutes later, freshman Will Hinegardner made it 2-0.
The Redskins all but sealed the win in the 14th minute as senior Andy Faller scored on an assist from Pablo Arroyo to give Wapak the three-goal lead.
