Connor Pickens shook his head.
âWow,â he said. âWow. This is unbelievable.â
Yeah, that pretty much summed it up.
Pickens rushed for a career-high 267 yards, narrowly missing a Wapakoneta single-game record, to lead the Redskins to a commanding 29-18 win over the Elida Bulldogs on Friday night at Harmon Field.
After a tight first half, Wapakâs offensive line took over, creating gaping holes in the Elida defense in the Western Buckeye League opener for both teams.

Walter N. Miley, 82, of 208 Parkway Drive, St. Marys, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at his residence.
He was born March 10, 1929, in Wapakoneta, to Harry S. and Florence (Koehl) Miley.
On Sept. 29, 1951, he married Rita M. Axe and she survives at the residence.
He is survived by a son, Mark Miley of St. Marys; a daughter, Susan (Mickey) Walker of North Judson, Ind.; two brothers, Charles (Grace) Miley of Adrian, Mich.; Harry (Margaret) Miley of St. Marys; sister-in-law, Hazel Miley of Davenport, Iowa; two grandsons, Shawn and Joshua Walker; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Jeanne D. Ballenger, 86, of St. Marys, died Friday, September 2, 2011, at Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community.
She was born February 22, 1925, in Akron, the daughter of Charles âPopâ and Pauline (Junkins) Cain
She married Richard Ballenger on July 21, 1946, and he preceded her in death on December 12, 2001.
She is survived by her son, Robert Ballenger of Tampa, Fla.
Mary Patricia âPatâ Stippich, 86, of Lima, died at 2:38 p.m. Thursday, Sept., 1, 2011, at St. Ritaâs Medical Center, in Lima. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 3, 1925, to the late Alberta M. (McPheron) and William Francis OâNeill. She married James Richard Stippich on Jan. 24, 1946, and he died April 27, 1995.
Lee R. Deerhake, 76, 10703 State Route 29, New Knoxville, died Monday, August 29, 2011, at Stein Hospice Center in Sandusky.
He was born March 11, 1935, in New Knoxville, to Laura (Vordermark) and LeRoy Deerhake.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, with the Revs. Dr. David Williams and Marvin Deerhake officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in the Evangelical Protestant Cemetery in New Knoxville.
Billy Joe âBillâ Carl, 77, of rural Alger, died at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at his residence.
He was born July 2, 1934, in Winchester, Ky., to Ellie (Brock) and Joseph Carl. On Sept. 16, 1955, in Dayton, he married Nora Shroyer and she survives.
Surviving are four sons, Terry Bowermister, of Dayton, Joe Carl, of Harrod, Frank Carl, of Bellefontaine, Tom Carl, of Harrod; and two daughters, Pam Pence, of Bucyrus, and Cathy Gratz, of Belle Center.
He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Michael.
Debbie Sue Baker, 54, of Wapakoneta, died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 31, 2011, at St. Ritaâs Medical in Lima.
She was born March 5, 1957, in Lima, the daughter of Carol (Verhoff) and Roger Baker. Her mother survives in Wapakoneta and her father is deceased.
