WAYNESFIELD - Waynesfield-Goshen Local Schools Superintendent Joann Kerekes has officially announced that she will be leaving the school district in about a month to take another position.
ST. MARYS â€” After almost 73 minutes of scoreless soccer, St. Marys and Wapakoneta each scored a goal in the gameâ€™s final seven minutes as they played to a 1-1 tie in a Western Buckeye League varsity girls soccer match Monday at West Field in St. Marys.
After the Roughriders took a late 1-0 lead, Wapak scored the equalizer and threw the proverbial wrench into St. Marysâ€™ WBL title defense.
The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls volleyball team improved its record to 9-6 with a four-game win over the Indian Lake Lakers on Monday at Wapakoneta High School.
Wapak won handily in the first two games â€” 25-18 and 25-13 â€” before the Lakers bounced back to take the third game 25-19.
But the Redskins were too much for Indian Lake in the fourth, pulling out a 25-18 win.
Senior hitters Morgan Quellhorst and Krissy Stienbaugh led Wapak with 12 kills each.
Quellhorst added four blocks. Junior libero Amber Dickerson had 30 digs.
WAYNESFIELD â€” Waynesfield village administrators continue to investigate the possibility of alternative energy sources for future village needs.
Waynesfield Village Administrator Fred Rowe informed Waynesfield Village Council members Monday about the possibilities for wind-generated energy and natural gas being brought to the village in the future.
WAYNESFIELD â€” Waynesfield Village Solicitor Bob Fitzgerald advised Waynesfield Village Council members that wording in the new budget bill could prove to be expensive for Waynesfield and other small villages.
He said he believes wording in the new budget bill carries a requirement for all municipalities to advertise all ordinances in public media.
â€śI received a letter from the state (addressing the new requirement),â€ť Fitzgerald said during Mondayâ€™s Waynesfield Village Council meeting. â€śThis will cost a lot of small villages a lot of money.â€ť
An approved variance and a variance denial became part of the official record Monday as Wapakoneta City Zoning Board of Appeals members read the changes into the record.
Residents receiving the variance still must wait at least four days before they can start with building a new porch in case a legal objection is filed by a neighbor.
Netty and Chad Poe, 1 W. Silver St., want to tear down an existing porch and to build a new porch that is 2 feet closer to the street. The porch would extend the full length of the house, which is 32 feet, 6 inches. The existing porch is shorter.
