SECTORS pairs up groups

A bill, which is being introduced on the U.S. Senate floor by a legislator from Ohio, is aimed at helping the unemployed receive the training desired by high growth industries.
The Strengthening Employment Clusters to Organize Regional Success (SECTORS) Act attempts to address the disparity between the nation’s high unemployment rate and industry executives struggling to find qualified workers.

Robert Hegemier, 88

Robert Hegemier, 88, 1909 Kishler Dr., St. Marys, died at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at St. Marys Living Center.
He was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Ansonia, the son of Martha (Vogel) and Emil Hegemier. On May 27, 1944, in rural Auglaize County, he married Mary Lea Schamp, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Gary (Connie) Hegemier, of Earlysville, Va., Jim (Tracy) Hegemier, of Ellenton, Fla.; and four daughters, Sharon (Ed) Sullivan, of St. Marys, Shirley (Mark) Dine, of Hilliard, Joan Smith, of Celina, and Gloria (Judd) Morrison, of Charleston, N.C.

SWIMMING: Waves sweep 11-12 divisions

The Wapakoneta Waves 11-12 year-olds left their mark on the Western Ohio Aquatic League Championships last weekend at Wapakoneta WaterPark.
They were the Waves’ only age division to take top honors in both the boys and girls standings.
The 11-12 girls dominated, scoring 393 points to just 278 for the second-place Sherwood Sharks. Nine different girls medaled with four of them garnering four or more medals.
In fact, the 11-12 girls accounted for 17 percent of the combined team score for the Waves. They score more points than any other age division for the Waves.

Archie Dupont, 72

July 20, 2011

Archie A. Dupont, 904 Hager St., St. Marys, died at 5:16 a.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011, in the emergency department at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born Feb. 17, 1939, in Ranger, Ind., the son of Isabell (Oldham) and Louis Dupont.
Private family services will be held. Burial will follow at Harshman Cemetery in Fairborn.
Arrangements are being handled by Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys.

Skating queen: Local finds love on ice

For a local 10-year-old Wapakoneta Elementary School fourth-grader a routine practice has turned into a new obsession.
With the elementary children taking class trips to go roller skating a couple times a year, Lacey Dietrick found her niche.
“The schools take the kids on a roller skating day every year,” said Lacey’s mother, Treasa Detrick. “Lacey quickly got very good at it. We were surprised at how fast she picked it up. She was a very good roller skater.”

PAC releases schedule

The first theatrical season for the Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center is set to feature popular stories and music, as well as a big green dinosaur, Scrooge and the Cat in the Hat.
“We are so excited about the first season at the Performing Arts Center (PAC),” PAC Events Coordinator Pam Egbert said. “We have picked shows that not only appeal to the school- aged children, but also the local residents that not only enjoy theater but enjoy coming to the Performing Arts Center to see a good show.”
