Pauline Swarner, 88

Pauline “Polly” Swarner, 88, of Cridersville, formerly of St. Marys, died at 9:35 a.m. Monday, July 4, 2011, at Cridersville Healthcare Center, where she had made her home since November 2006. Prior to that, she had been a resident of The Gardens of Wapakoneta.
She was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Lima, the daughter of Maude (Ramer) and Guy Swarner, who preceded her in death. Her father died when she was only 6 years old. When her mother later remarried, it was her good fortune to have a wonderful step-father, Benjamin Kundert, whom she lovingly always called Dad.

ACME: Wapak to face Minster

MINSTER — A rough start to Tuesday night’s game didn’t deter the Minster ACME baseball team from assuring itself of a trip to the district tournament.

Minster pushed a run across in the bottom of the sixth inning and advanced to the title game of the Auglaize County sectional tournament with a 5-4 win over top-seeded St. Marys at Hanover Street Park.

Wapak, the No. 2 seed, and Minster will battle for the sectional crown tonight at 6. Since the tournament is double-elimination, if Minster wins that game the two teams will play again at 8:15.

Pamela Stover, 64

Pamela J. Johnson Mangin Stover 64, of Wapakoneta died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, July 4, 2011 at her residence.
She was born May 3, 1947, in Lima, to Lola M. (Colley) and Harold A. Johnson in Lima. Her mother survives in Lima. On March 27, 1965 she married Donald D. Mangin Sr. She then married William F. Stover on July 8, 1979, and he died February 6, 1998.
Also surviving are two sons; Donald (Trina) Mangin Jr. and Todd (Nicole) Mangin, both of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and a daughter Christine (Jamie) Schneer, of Wapakoneta.

Brody Osborne, 62

Brody A. Osborne, 62, of rural Wapakoneta, died at 6:40 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, in Lima following a sudden illness.
He was born July 8, 1948, in Martin, Ky., the son of Opal (Amburgey)and Raymond Osborne, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 29, 2006, he married Debra K. Brown, and she survives.

H. Laverne Wertz, 89

H. LaVerne Wertz, 89, of Wapakoneta, died 12:18 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta.

Jonathan Shively, 40

Jonathan R. “Jon” Shively, 40, of Cridersville, died at 10:33 a.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
He was born Sept. 27, 1970, in Lima, the son of Sandra S. (Klinger) and William J. Shively. On June 27, 1998, he married Gina C. Lawrence and she survives in Lima.
Surviving are a son, Brady John Shively, of Cridersville; and a daughter, Caitlin Susanne Shively, of Cridersville.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Perry High School in Lima, with the Rev. David Brookhart offciating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Phillip Lewis, 55

Phillip M. Lewis, 55, 117 S. Main St., St. Marys, died June 25, 2011.
He was born Sept. 5, 1955, in Celina, the son of Raymond K. and Nora (Colwell) Lewis.
Surviving are a daughter, Mahala Lewis, of Savannah, Ga.
Services are at 7 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home in St.Marys, with the Rev. John Mobley officiating.
Friends may call from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Addison Berner, 6

Addison Lynn Berner, 6, 301 W. Walnut St., Anna, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2011 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 25, 2005, in Lima, the daughter of Kelly (Greve) and Tony Berner, of Anna.
Also surviving are a brother, Dylan Michael Berner; two sisters, Abigail Jean Berner and Alenah Grace Berner; paternal grandparents, Gary and Molly Berner, of Anna; maternal grandparents, Doug Greve, of Botkins and Deb Greve, of Botkins; 12 aunts and uncles; 15 cousins; and an uncountable amount of friends.

Lake attracts boaters, campers over holiday

ST. MARYS — Sunny skies and calm waters brought a slew of boaters and campers to Grand Lake St. Marys State Park for the holiday weekend.
“It was a good weekend,” Park Manager Brian Miller said. “The campground was at 90 percent occupancy, which is the best we’ve seen since Memorial Day weekend. Boat traffic was well above what it was — we had people tubing, skiing and people using boaters beaches for swimming. There also was a lot of fishing, having picnics and people enjoying the area.”

County seeking person to serve on board

The Auglaize County commissioners are looking for someone to serve on the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties.
The four-year term is to replace the Rev. Steve Nelson, whose term has expired.
The board’s mission is to “reach out and provide vital prevention and treatment services to every resident,” board Executive Director Mike Schoenhofer said
