CRIDERSVILLE — Standing in front of the Cridersville Fire Department as the Saturday afternoon parade makes its way down Main Street, two sisters and their families applaud a fire truck as it drives by.
Afterall, they say, that’s what the Cridersville Firemen’s Jamboree is all about.
As the children pick up candy off the street, Melanie Reichelderfer and Megan Rumbaugh take in what they describe as one of the best parades around.
Melanie’s husband, Jeff Reichelderfer, serves as assistant chief of the department and the family all comes out to offer its support throughout the weekend.
FORT LORAMIE — Music filled the air as country fans flocked to Hickory Hills in Fort Loramie for the 31st annual Concert Concert.
The three-day event ended Saturday evening, and included camping and country music from big names in the industry, including Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean.
Many people helped make this festival a success, including concert workers, security and parking supervisors from dedicated citizens, including Lima’s Lee Lauck.
A Wapakoneta Middle School student volunteering time this summer to work at the library hopes he may help others develop the same passion he has for reading.
Ten-year-old Noah Hetrick volunteers at the Auglaize County District Public Library in Wapakoneta two hours a week on Friday mornings. During that time, he mans the table for the young adult and children’s summer reading programs, checking reading sheets and handing out tickets for prizes.
“It’s a good thing to do,” Noah said. “It’s helping me learn about the library.
ST. HENRY — Wapakoneta stayed alive in the ACME baseball district tournament on Sunday with a win over Delphos St. John’s a day after falling behind early and losing to Van Wert 10-8 on Saturday at St. Henry.
Van Wert and Wapakoneta will meet again in an elimination game tonight at 7 at the Wally Post Athletic Center in St. Henry. The winner of that game will face Minster.
Velma C. Mayer Geyer, 91, of Lima, died at 12:40 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Cridersville.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville.
Other arrangements are incomplete at the funeral home.
John Murray Griffin, of Spencerville, died at 12:29 a.m.. Saturday, July 9, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born April 16, 1916, in rural Spencerville, the son of Edna Holloway and Jack A. Griffin. On July 3, 1942, he married Doris C. Reynolds, who died May 10, 1997.
Surviving are three daughters, Phyllis (Richard) Smith, of Edgerton, Pamela (Dave) Heitmeyer, of Ottoville, and Jo Griffin, of Spencerville.
