Several boxes of paperwork eligible to be destroyed is to be shredded as decided during a meeting of the Wapakoneta City Schools Records Commission.
Wapakoneta City Schools Treasurer Susan Rinehart said materials to be shredded fall under normal categories and length of times for which they must be kept as determined by the Ohio Revised Code.
“We’ve kept this stuff as long as we need to to maintain records,” Rinehart said.
Phyllis Marie Cook, 80, 806 Laurel Drive, St. Marys, died at 11:55 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.
She was born Feb. 25, 1931, in Wexford County, Mich., the daughter of Lou (Smith) and Harry Deuel. In 1951, she married Everett Goldsmith, who preceded her in death. In 1977, she married Dean Cook who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Mark Goldsmith, of St. Marys, and Dick (Melanie) Goldsmith, of Zanesfield.
With the holiday weekend quickly approaching, there will be many celebrations and traditions involved — including fireworks. The Wapakoneta fire chief and the state fire marshal remind of the importance of following safety precautions to reduce the number of fires and fireworks related injuries.
“The best way for Ohioans to prevent fireworks injuries is to attend a licensed, professional firework exhibition,” State Fire Marshal Larry Flowers said. “Keep in mind that even trick and novelty fireworks, like sparklers, are inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury.”
A local fundraiser that is in conjunction with the Summer Moon Festival is underway with collecting items for their auction.
The Riverside Art Center’s Chair-ity and Fun-iture Silent Auction will be held July 15 and 16, during the Summer Moon Festival in Wapakoneta.
Organizers are still taking donations of decorated chairs and furniture up until Friday.
“We always get something unique that catches the eye,” co-chair of the event Carrie Knoch said.

If Tuesday night was any indication, Wapakoneta’s ACME tournament opener on Friday should be a good one.
Wapak rallied from a three-run deficit to post a 7-5 win over New Bremen at Wapakoneta High School. The two teams are set to face each other when tournament play begins Friday night at 6 at Hanover Street Park in Minster.
Trailing 5-2 after 4 1/2 innings, Wapak scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and three times in the sixth for the come-from-behind win.

Marie L. Cordier, 82, formerly of 08361 Burd Road, Celina, died at 7 aa.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, at Hospice of Dayton.
She was born Dec. 7, 1928, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Alma (Sandkuhl) and Guy Benzing. On May 24, 1954, in St. Marys, she married Paul F. Cordier who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane (Roger) Young, of Centerville, and Joyce Cordier of Hilliard.
Services are at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys, the Rev. Becky Erb-Strang officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
William G. Holtzhauer, 79. formerly of 1709 Kingsbury Drive, St. Marys, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospice in Lexington, Ky.
He was born Aug. 27, 1931, in St. Marys, the son of Zeitha (Richards) and Charles Holtzhauer. On Jan. 14, 1961, he married Carol Nolan and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Chip (Dianna) Holtzhauer, of Lexington, Ky., and Daniel Holtzhauer, of Findlay; and a daughter, Michelle Mikki (Noel) Livanos, of St. Johns.
Ronald Lewis Moore, 90, died at 3:20 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, at Logan Acres in Bellefontaine.
He was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Hardin County, the son of Elda A. (Ford) and Harry W. Moore. He married Vivian Spencer, who preceded him in death. In June of 1952, in New Hampshire, he married Elnora Jean Fry and she preceded him in death.
Surviving is a daughter, Linda Jane Moore of New Mexico.
After 16 years, the track at Harmon Field is scheduled to be resurfaced this summer.
Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education members Tuesday unanimously accepted the lowest bid for the work, which is expected to be completed by Aug. 1 at a total cost of $65,566.
“We’ve done as many repairs to it as we could,” Wapakoneta City Schools Operations Director Mike Watt said. “This past spring before track started, sections could be lifted up, they weren’t adhered anymore. We had to adhere it with material from Lowe’s to get us through.”
