Power outage hits, electric restored

June 21, 2011

Wapakoneta and several villages in Auglaize County were part of a widespread power outage Tuesday when electricity on a main power line near Shawnee was interrupted.
The outage occurred as a storm with heavy lightning moved through the area after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Power to the city was interrupted at approximately 6:15 p.m., with electricity off for approximately two hours as city crews started to restore power to residents at approximately 8:15 p.m.

Geraldine Ramga, 89

Geraldine Carolynn Ramga, 889, 06755 Lock 14 Road, Wapakoneta, died at 10:40 a.m. June 18, 2011, at her home after an extended illness.
She was born April 30, 1922, the daughter of Grace Bailey and Glen Bonifield. In 1938 she married Paul Ramga, who died June 8, 1959.
Surviving are a son, Glenn (Kay) Ramga, of Wapakoneta; two daughters, Carolynn (Ray) Sidey, of Wapakoneta, and Pauletta (Jim) Welshimer, of Findlay; four grandchildren, Paul Sidey, Janine (Michael) Loyer, Annette Ramga (Rick) Alatorre, and Rachel Ramga, and two great-grandchildren, Jeannette Loyer and Benjamin Loyer.

Rollover on County Road 33A

A two-car collision resulted in one person being transported by Wapakoneta EMS to an area hospital at approximately 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Law enforcement personnel at the scene said not much information was available until completion of an investigation at the scene of the accident.
From information gathered at the scene it appears a white van was heading east on County Road 33A, and another vehicle lost control while heading west and struck the van. The tan vehicle rolled onto its top and came to a rest on the highway.

Schwieterman Pharmacy in Minster broken into

MINSTER — Officers in Minster are investigating a break-in at a local pharmacy.
At approximately 2:40 a.m. Monday, officers responded to an alarm at Schwieterman Pharmacy, 324 N. Main St. When officers arrived, they reportedly spotted an individual wearing dark clothing who was fleeing the building. Officers gave chase before losing the suspect behind houses in the neighborhood. 
Officers from the New Bremen Police Department, deputies from the Auglaize and Shelby County sheriff’s offices and troopers from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol assisted in the search. 

Wapak renews realtor deal

With interest expressed from firms in Wapakoneta’s 471-acre Job Ready Sites (JRS) manufacturing site, Wapakoneta City Council elected to continue with a two-year agreement with CB Richard Ellis, the world’s largest real estate company.
Wapakoneta Area Economic Development Council (WAEDC) Executive Director Greg Myers explained the terms of the existing contract and additional information his board member would like from the commercial realtor. Myers wanted to know if councilors wanted to continue with the second year of a two-year deal.

Erosion control efforts

Wapakoneta city administrators and elected officials claim they are taking a proactive step in avoiding state Environmental Protection Agency oversight by seeking legislation that cleans up the streets and storm sewers of dirt and debris.
Wapakoneta City Council members heard the first reading of an ordinance establishing a new section in the city’s building code dealing with erosion and sediment control.

RACING: Craig grabs win in Keysor Memorial

ALLENTOWN — The 10th annual Bobby Keysor Memorial may well have been the most competitive and thrilling race staged in the decade long history of the event.
The 15-lap feature saw three of Limaland Motorsports Park’s winningest Budweiser Thunderstock drivers of all-time and a pair of more recent hot shots battle through the final lap to decide the winner.
In the end, Barney Craig held off Kevin Gossard, current points leader Keith Ralston, Jeff Koz and Tony Anderson for the win.
