ACME: Wapak bats come alive in win over Kenton

That’s more like it.
After scoring just 11 run in its previous three games combined, Wapakoneta’s ACME baseball team snapped out of its offensive slump with an 11-run first inning and cruised to a 13-1 five-inning run rule win over Kenton on Wednesday at Wapakoneta High School.
The win lifted Wapak to 8-0 on the season.
Brandon Miller picked up the win on the mound.
Six different players collected hits for Wapak, with three players tallying multiple hits.
Chandler Kaeck led the way, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

W-G seeking coaches

Terry Lewis, 67

June 16, 2011

Terry Lee Lewis, 67, of Lima, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at his home.
He was born March 12, 1944, in Wyandot, Mich., to Mabel Marie (Fantz) and James Oliver Lewis. His mother survives. On Aug. 1, 1970, he married Margaret Ann Wenzel who survives in Lima.
Also surviving are two sons, Grant L. (Jennifer) Lewis, of Pataskala, and Dwight A. Lewis, of Hume; and a daughter, Amanda (Jacob) Dablemont, of Columbia, Mo.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Evangelical and Reformed Church in Lima, with the Rev. Ed Rinehart officiating.

Homer Robinette, 70

Homer Ray Robinette, 70, 1126 Nagel Street, Saint Marys, Ohio, died at 11:56 A.M. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Doctor’s West Hospital in Columbus following a sudden illness.
He was born June 2, 1941, in Williamson, West Virginia, the son of Effie (Blacke) and Lee Robinette.

William Nagel, 90

William Howard “Bill” Nagel, 90, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at his residence.
He was born July 11, 1920, in Wapakoneta, the son of Rose (Strominger) and Wilbur Nagel, who preceded him in death. On April 13, 1950, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, he married Theresa Niese, who survives after 61 years of marriage.
Also surviving are two sons, Dave Nagel and Mark (Chris) Nagel; two daughters, Bernie (Jay) Lindquist and Mick (Scott) Carlson; many grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Nagel.

Crowning moment

In the final year a local teen planned to compete in a statewide Outstanding Teen pageant, she was crowned the winner.
Seventeen-year-old Kelsey Barrett, who in the fall will be a senior at Wapakoneta High School, was named Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen on Tuesday night at the Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield. The crowning was part of a busy week of activities and competitions culminating in the crowning of Miss Ohio on Saturday.

Cridersville sidewalk plan underway

CRIDERSVILLE — A special Safe Routes to School meeting, which was held earlier this week, to discussed the new sidewalk plans for the village of Cridersville.
Tony Schroeder, project manager of Choice One Engineering, presented the plans that will be sent to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for approval.
“The plans and material will be completely covered by ODOT,” Schroeder said Monday at the special meeting.
On the plans he presented, sidewalks will be constructed on Reichelderfer Road and Carlisle Street in Cridersville.

Retired fire chief to head emergency response

A former Wapakoneta fire chief will be handing emergency response coordination full-time for the Auglaize County Health Department.
Don Jump, who also has recently served as the president of the Wapakoneta City Council, a member of the Local Emergency Planning Commission (LEPC) and as a member of the Wapakoneta
Area Economic Development Council, was officially named to the position of emergency response coordinator during a meeting of the Health Board this week.
Unofficially he started in his new position last week.
