Vicky J. Kiefer, 50, of Wapakoneta, died at5:19 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, 2001, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born May 6, 1961, in Madison County, Ind., the daughter of J. Wanda (Robertson) and Kimley Douglas, who preceded her in death. On May 5, 2000, she married Barry A. Kiefer, and he survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are a son, Jason Brewer, of Columbus; three grandchildren, Cameron Rose, Chase Rose, and Lily Rose; a brother, Steve Douglas, of Indiana; and a sister, Judy Gerard, of Elwood, Ind.
Marie E. Bilyj, 88, of Wapakoneta, formerly of Dover, N.H., died at 6:01 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at Otterbein Cridersville.
She was born July 10, 1923, in Crawfordsville, Ind., the daughter of Clenna (Odle) and George Galloway, who preceded her in death.
She was married to Stephen A. Bilyj for 34 years, and he died Sept. 5, 1998.
Florence C. Wireman, 78, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Alger, the daughter of Nellie (Williams) and Harry Coppler, who preceded her in death. On March 3, 1949, she married John F. Wireman, who died Feb. 21, 2003.
Fifteen minutes after the conclusion of the Wapakoneta Redskins’ 56-42 loss to the Marion Local Flyers on Tuesday night, Redskins varsity girls basketball coach Rusty Allen still hadn’t emerged from the home lockerroom.
Once he did, Allen knew what the first question was going to be.
“It was the call,” Allen said.
“The call” was what Allen would later describe as a “phantom charge” against senior guard Tasha Helmstetter.
BOTKINS — The Anna Rockets girls basketball team remained undefeated by easily taking care of Botkins in a 58-35 win Tuesday.
Anna jumped out to a big lead early, capturing an 18-7 lead in the first period and never looked back.
“They are a very good team,” Botkins varsity coach Don Mack said. “They get up and down the court in a hurry. We were able to force them into some outside shots but it wasn’t enough.”
Anna’s quickness got them plenty of second shots, as they pulled down 13 offensive rebounds in the contest.
One county office holder is anticipating what he may do when he retires. However, he anticipates working right up to the last minute for those he serves.
Auglaize County Veteran’s Service Commission Director Doug Howard maintained his work pace at the office on Tuesday as the minutes tick down to his last at 4:30 p.m Friday.
“They are working me right up to the end,” Howard said with a little chuckle.
Howard, who has served eight years as director at the Veteran’s Service Commission, said he could not imagine a more rewarding job.
WAYNESFIELD — Two new councilors will be representing residents in the village of Waynes-field after they officially take office in January.
Waynesfield Mayor Mike Ridenour swore in two new councilors during Tuesday’s Waynesfield Village Council meeting.
Bill Motter and Richard Libby took the oath of office during the meeting and will begin their terms Sunday. The two were the top vote-getters of a highly contested election that saw seven people run for two open spots. Councilor Chris Wilson chose not to run again and Ronda Knox finished third in the race.
Prefacing himself with saying he gives the same pitch every year, the Auglaize County prosecutor submitted a budget request for 2012 up 2 percent from this year.
Auglaize County Prosecutor Ed Pierce said the increase reflects a $500 increase to $3,000 in supplies and a 3 percent pay increase for employees, specifically a pay grade increase for the assistant prosecuting attorney.
In total, Pierce requested a budget of $487,463 for his office in 2012.
