Harold W. McNeil, 73, of Lima, died at 9:03 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born June 5, 1937 in Grundy, Va., the is the son of Elizabeth Looney and Clyde McNeil. On Oct. 17, 1961 he married Inis A. Layne, who survives.
Also surviving is a son, David Harold McNeil, of Lima; and a daughter, Tracy Diane Green, of Lima.
Services are at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, the Rev. Larry Molaski officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima.
Raymond L. Mowery, 82, of Westminster, died at 7:11 a.m. Nov. 20, 2011, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1929, in Allen County, to Evadna Tidd and Jesse F. Mowery, who have preceded him in death. On Sept. 7, 1951, in the Harrod Christian Church, he married Rose Mary Elsass by the Rev. Williard Thomas. She survives in Westminster.
John Gies, 91, formerly of Jackson Center, died Saturday afternoon, Nov.19, 2011, at Dorothy Love Nursing Home.
He was born April 23, 1920, in Akron, to the late Mildred Fox and Christian Gies, Sr. On Sept. 2, 1939, in Kentucky, he married the former Naomi R. Packer and she preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1994.
Anita L. Rogers, 36, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born in Lima, the daughter of Carol (Meckstroth) and Billy Rogers. Her mother survives in Wapakoneta, and her father is deceased.
Also surviving are two brothers, Jeffrey (Melanie) Rogers, of Sylvania, Paul (Cortney) Rogers, of Wapakoneta; five nephews, Jason T. Rogers, Austin P. Rogers, Zach J. Rogers, Blake L. Rogers, and Danny Wheeler; two nieces, Totionna S. Rogers and Kayionna S. Rogers; and paternal grandmother, V. Lucille Rogers, of St. Marys.

Mrs. Stoffer — the unsung hero of the Wapakoneta Redskins 2011 football team.
Years ago she told a young, impressionable Doug Frye, “Good, better, best. Never let it rest until your good is better and your better is best.”
Frye never forgot the words of his sixth-grade English teacher and passed them on to his young charges.
“I think our kids have to understand that what we did this year was a step in the right direction,” the Redskins varsity coach said. “But it wasn’t the ultimate accomplishment.”
A step in the right direction indeed.
Two years ago, the Redskins went 1-9.
The party has started in Elida.
It started early in Friday night’s game.
The Bulldogs are headed to the Division III football state semifinals after dominating the Columbus Eastmoor Academy Warriors 37-10.
It was all about the defense as Elida held Eastmoor’s power rushing attack to just 44 yards and sacked quarterback David valdez nine times.
Bids for the first part of improvements to be made to the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center came in approximately $10,000 lower than the estimate.
“When we first came out here, the dispatch center from the old facility came with us,” Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon said of the office’s move to the Auglaize County Law Enforcement Center in 1998. “This is part of updates we have been hoping to do for years.”
The challenge of what move or moves to make next to beat their opponents has students at Wapakoneta High School flocking to chess sets during any free time they get.
Some students have never played before, while others have been playing for years or played when they were younger. Thirty of them have formed a club under the leadership of teacher Bill Sammons and are meeting weekly for matches and tournaments. The last time the high school had such an organization was 15 years ago.
New attractions should help add more holiday spirit to a local Christmas tradition geared toward children, a local organizer says.
Children’s Hometown Holiday organizer Elaine Poppe is putting the final touches on the 5th annual children’s event, which is to be held the first weekend in December, and she said she is excited about new features including the outdoor ice skating rink. Skating will be free to all the children and will be opened for two days downtown.
