The Wapakoneta Redskins bounced back from a six-point fourth-quarter deficit and pulled away to a 57-52 win over the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers in the varsity girls basketball season opener for both teams.
Redskins senior Courtney Knippen scored 15 of her team-high 19 points in the second half, including the go-ahead free throws with 3:24 to play.
âWe got the ball inside down the stretch a couple times and forced them to foul us,â Wapak varsity coach Rusty Allen said. âWe just kept doing the things we needed to do to get a âWâ tonight.â
Beulah M. Rupert, 76, of Lima, formerly of Cridersville, died at 10:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, in her home.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, in Cridersville.

Scrooge and all the characters of Charles Dickensâ holiday story will take the stage for the final show of the season at Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, in âThe Night Before Christmas Carol,â a special take on the classic Christmas story written by Dickens in 1843.

Viola L. Thuman, 98, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:09 p.m. Wed-nesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Auglaize Acres.
She was born May 11, 1913, in Auglaize County, the daughter of Anna (Leininger) and Jacob H. Zorn, who preceded her in death. On Jan. 26, 1933, she married Lloyd R. Thuman, and he died April 9, 1988.

Two votes ended up being the difference in the race for Uniopolis mayor.
By two votes, the incumbent Uniopolis mayor was re-elected to his fifth term, according to official results of the Nov. 8 general election released Wednesday by the Auglaize County Elections Board.
No final outcomes of other countywide races changed based on official election results after provisional ballots were added into totals.
Through an agreement with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Auglaize County Solid Waste District recently made changes and updates to its rules and regulations.
Auglaize County Solid Waste Coordinator Dave Reichelderfer said the update is part of a normal process but was something that was long overdue.
âWhen we submitted a plan to the EPA we said we would review some of the rules we have and update them,â Reichelderfer said. âWe have finally done that. Itâs something we should have done quite a while ago.â
Area high school basketball starts up tonight when the Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls team travels to Waynesfield to take on the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers.
Wapak is coming off a disappointing 2010-2011 season marred by numerous injuries. Seniors Tasha Helmstetter, Mallory McDevitt and Morgan Quellhorst all missed time due to injuries last year but are back for the 2011-2012 campaign.
Unfortunately for the Redskins, senior Ashley Knippen is out for the season after suffering a knee injury in the powder-puff football game a few weeks ago.
