New COLA for seniors

With medical costs for American senior citizens eclipsing the average wage earner’s, two U.S. senators introduced a bill this week to have cost of living adjustments for Social Security benefits to more accurately reflect senior citizens expenses.
U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., announced Wednesday the introduction of their bill, the Consumer Price Index for Elderly Consumers Act, which would change the cost of living adjustments from an average wage earner in the United States to expenses incurred by senior citizens.

Jose takes the title of bee winner

A national spelling bee contestant took the crown once again at the Wapakoneta Middle School spelling bee.
Seventh-grader LeeAnn Jose competed against several students from the fifth, sixth and seventh grades on Wednesday afternoon at the Wapakoneta Middle School and again took home the first place title.
“It feels good, I guess,” LeeAnn Jose said after the competition in the auditorium. “Wait, no ‘I guess.’ It feels good.”
Jose did not win this without a fight, as sixth-grader Loren Hire met her word for word for several rounds.

Homestretch moves to new location

A downtown Wapakoneta business is moving to a Bellefontaine Street location to gain more room.
“We were out of room downtown,” Homestretch Inc. Manager Kim Baumer said this week as work began on the exterior of the former King Buffet location at 1030 Bellefontaine St. “We had been looking for quite a while.”
They inquired several years ago about the possibility of purchasing the building which they were able to purchase last week.

Chloie Della Warner, 94

November 17, 2011

Chloie Della Warner, 94, a resident of Otterbein Cridersville, passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 15, at Otterbein.
She was born Nov. 7, 1917, in Forest, the daughter of Laura (Ensminger) and Curtis Warner, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sisters, Marie Miller, Pauline Kollar and Berniece Mills.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, in Cridersville, with Chaplain Lynn Huffman officiating.
A private family burial is planned at the Wharton Cemetery preceding the memorial service.

Helen L. Decker, 89

November 17, 2011

Helen L. Decker, 89, of Waynesfield, died at 10:52 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Auglaize County to May (Marquess) and Clarence Jacobs.
On May 25, 1949, she married Winton A. Decker and he preceded her in death on April 23, 2005.
Survivors include, a daughter, Judy Beers, of Waynesfield.
Services are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Armentrout Funeral Home, in Waynesfield, with the Rev. Wayne de Wet and Jean Horn officiating.
Burial is to follow at Fairmount Cemetery near Unipolis.

Sheila A. Larck, 47

November 17, 2011

Sheila A. Larck, 47, of St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011.
She was born Jan. 2, 1964, in South Charleston, W. Va., the daughter of Reba (Williams) and Delmar Ray Larck. Her mother survives and her father preceded her in death.
Sheila was self-employed with her cleaning business and was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 691.
Survivors include her daughter, Sara Larck; son, Steven Larck; sister, Kelly Larck; brother, Jeff Larck; and two grandchildren, Kagan and Rhylon Larck.
She was preceded in death by her son, Delmar Ray Wilson.
