Troopers with the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol continue to investigate a semitrailer crash at approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 75 in the southbound lanes just beyond the on ramp from U.S. 33.
The semitrailer came to rest on its side and blocked off an entire lane of traffic. A report was not yet available from the OHSP as details of the crash are not yet available. Another service truck was on the highway with several cables hooked to the semitrailer in what appeared to be an attempt to pull the truck back up to an upright position.
When the 2011 Western Buckeye League football schedule was released, eyes were instantly drawn to Week 10.
Kenton vs. Wapakoneta.
The buzz was immediate.
All the two teams had to do was survive the toughest WBL gauntlet in recent memory.
Each had their too-close-for-comfort moment — the Redskins’ 14-13 win over Bath in Week 3 and the Wildcats’ 30-28 win over Elida in Week 6.
But they came out on top. And now, here it is, Week 10.
9-0 vs. 9-0.
Wapak is ranked seventh in Division II in the latest AP state poll. The Wildcats are No. 1 in Division IV.
FINDLAY — Wapakoneta Redskins varsity volleyball coach Keith Rambin was flying blind.
No match film? No scouting report? No stats? No idea what to expect?
No problem.
The Redskins may not have known much about the Napoleon Wildcats, but they figured it out early enough to roll to a three-game sweep in a Division II district semifinal Wednesday at Liberty-Benton High School.
Wapak rallied for a narrow 25-23 win in the first game, then pulled away to win 25-20 in the second and 25-16 in the third.
Within days of the contract expiring, Wapakoneta Police Department law enforcement officers and Wapakoneta City Council members reached agreement on a new deal.
Councilors approved a new three-year collective bargaining agreement during a special meeting Tuesday with the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, which represents the department’s officers and lieutenants. The agreement takes effect Nov. 1, a day after existing deal expires and runs through Oct. 31, 2014.
Wapakoneta City Schools Superintendent Keith Horner says he just wants a level playing field when it comes to school funding, standards and mandates — and House Bill 136 tilts the field even further in favor of parochial and private schools.
WAYNESFIELD — Waynesfield Mayor Michael Ridenour faces two challengers as he attempts to retain his position of mayor by gaining the majority of the vote during the Nov. 8 general election.
One-time candidate Jeff Sandoe and newcomer Kristina Hahn have thrown their hats in the ring.
Ridenour, 58 206 W. Mulberry St., Waynesfield, has served in the position since 2000. He was appointed to fill the unexpired term of the late Gene Barnes and has since been elected to two more terms. He previously served on the village council from 1998-2000.
